Breakwater Learning is an educational nonprofit organization consisting of an independent day school, an enrichment center, and a robust summer camp program. We are seeking a full-time Director of Finance to join our dedicated team and work closely with the Executive Director and a small team of administrators.
The Director of Finance is responsible for overseeing Breakwater’s Business Office, which includes Finance, Human Resources, and some Facilities. This role is crucial to ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of the organization’s activities and supporting its mission of delivering exceptional educational experiences. Salary range is $65,000-75,000
Essential responsibilities include, but are not limited to,
Supervise Business Office in relation to payroll processing, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and Human Resources responsibilities.
Processing monthly journal entries and bank reconciliations
Preparing monthly data for the finance committee meetings
Prepare for annual audits and work with an auditing firm
Prepare a yearly budget
Support the Facilities Manager in coordinating maintenance contracts (plowing/landscaping, disposal/recycling, HVAC, elevator, sprinkler, etc.)
Assist Facilities Manager in maintaining an annually updated long-term capital improvements document.
Participate in the facilities and finance committees at the board level
Maintain a high level of confidentiality when it comes to sensitive discoveries as needed
Advise the administrative team, when expertise is needed, in terms of pros and cons for certain projects.
Additional duties as assigned by the Executive Director
Preferred qualifications and experience:
At least 5+ years of experience working in Finance/Accounting
Bookkeeping experience is essential
Experience in budgeting and financial planning
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Proficiency with Human Resources/Payroll software systems
