Forest Hills Baptist Church (Nashville/Brentwood, TN) is hiring a Director of Finance / Finance Director who will oversee all of the church's financial operations.
Reponsibilities
Oversee and direct all daily financial operations, including general ledger, contributions, payroll, and accounts payable/receivable
Ensure accurate accounting and reporting of restricted, designated, and operating funds in accordance with donor intent and church policy
Partner with the Executive Pastor and Finance Committee to develop, administer, and monitor the annual budget, including forecasting and variance analysis
Provide proactive financial analysis, scenario modeling, and recommendations to support strategic planning and capital initiatives
Develop, implement, and maintain financial policies, procedures, and internal controls that ensure transparency, accountability, and compliance with nonprofit standards
Maintain and optimize the chart of accounts and financial structure (including departments, projects, and other dimensions), ensuring proper internal controls and segregation of duties
Prepare and present monthly financial statements with clear, decision-useful commentary
Oversee payroll processing, employee benefits administration, and related onboarding processes (I-9, W-4, direct deposit, benefits enrollment)
Ensure compliance with all applicable tax regulations, including preparation of 1099s and annual contribution statements
Oversee cash management, banking relationships, liquidity, and cash flow planning, including seasonality of giving
Perform or oversee monthly reconciliations and coordinate the annual audit or financial review
Serve as primary liaison with external partners, including banks, auditors, insurance providers, and financial consultants
Ensure the integrity, security, and effective use of financial systems (e.g., Sage Intacct), including development of reporting tools and dashboards
Provide financial insights and guidance to ministry leaders to support wise stewardship of their budgets
Communicate financial information clearly and consistently to reinforce trust, transparency, and a culture of generosity
Lead, develop, and support the finance team staff to ensure high performance, accuracy, and accountability
Stay current on nonprofit accounting standards, church finance best practices, and relevant technologies

Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field — CPA or Master’s degree strongly preferred
5+ years of progressively responsible experience in accounting, finance, or controller-level roles, preferably within a church or nonprofit organization of similar size and complexity
Demonstrated experience leading financial operations, including budgeting, reporting, forecasting, and internal controls
Strong financial analysis skills, with experience developing and managing budget structures
Proficiency in accounting and payroll systems — experience with Sage Intacct, Ramp, and/or Planning Center Giving strongly preferred
Working knowledge of nonprofit accounting standards, fund accounting, and applicable tax and regulatory requirements
High level of integrity and discretion, with strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
Clear and effective communication skills, with the ability to translate financial information for non-financial leaders and collaborate across teams
Founded in 1960, Forest Hills Baptist Church is a member of the Southern Baptist Convention.
