Responsible for administrative duties related to the development and maintenance of systems and applications to support the needs of the division, including budget, personnel, and purchasing management systems.
Assists with short- and long-range division-level budget planning with collective annual operations of approximately $450m for all fund types, including state appropriations, student and miscellaneous fees, receipts, trust funds, discretionary funds, grants and contracts, foundation/gifts/endowment funds, and capital projects.
Experience with preparing and importing data into a reporting tool (e.g., Tableau and Smartsheet) and creating dashboards for divisional financial analysis.
Identifies efficient methods of developing and distributing accessible financial summaries and drill-down reports (e.g., Tableau visualizations and Smartsheet).
Ability to analyze divisional-level datasets to identify trends, inconsistencies, and opportunities for improvement utilizing reporting tools.
Serves as a business partner for assigned academic support units, ensuring regular communication, conducting monthly and/or quarterly budget review meetings, supporting the annual budget planning process, and providing a wide range of financial guidance and support.
Applies knowledge of fund accounting and management of all fund types, along with their restrictions and application regarding managing the academic enterprise.
Applies knowledge and experience regarding academic affairs budget in a college/university setting: provost commitments, faculty startups, reassignment of duties, compensation practices and policies related to both staff and faculty, faculty RPT (reappointment, promotion, tenure), management of funding related to vacancies (lapsed salaries) funding for capital projects particularly as it relates to the academic infrastructure (buildings and equipment).
Provides oversight of personnel-related actions and other business-related transactions, including budget revisions and journal vouchers, among others; conducts audits as needed to ensure financial compliance.
Applies effective management principles in all aspects of work; provides indirect supervision of business support personnel across the division (100+); represents leadership in the absence of the Senior Business Officer.
Stays on top of industry trends by advocating for and applying appropriate professional development; ensures continuous learning; inspires curiosity to solve institutional problems.
Minimum Experience / Education:
Bachelor's degree and four years of progressively responsible experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Preferred Education Skills and Experience:
Master's degree in Business Administration or a related discipline
Professional experience in higher education and/or public sector
Experience working in a large division at an executive level
Demonstrated experience and proficiency in working with various data management and financial tools, including, but not limited to, Microsoft Applications (Excel), Google Suite (Sheets), Enterprise Systems such as Banner/PeopleSoft that include a broad suite of tools to support institution-wide business functions (finance, hr, purchasing, travel, etc.)
