Aspen Country Day School is seeking a Director of Finance to lead the school’s financial operations.
The Director of Finance is a senior administrative leader responsible for overseeing the financial health and sustainability of the school. This role manages budgeting, accounting, financial reporting, tuition and billing, financial aid coordination, and long-term financial planning, while supporting the school’s mission and strategic goals. Aspen Country Day School shares a campus with Aspen Music School and Festival and this position coordinates on annual budgeting with the neighboring staff.

Salary:
The wage rate for this position will include a salary range of $165,000-$195,000and will be commensurate with experience.
This is a full-time position with health, dental, vision, disability insurance, and retirement plan offerings. Housing support may be available.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Management & Planning
Develop and manage the annual operating and capital budgets in collaboration with the Head of School and leadership team
Monitor cash flow, investments, and reserves to ensure financial stability
Prepare financial forecasts and long-term financial models
Detail oriented approach of accounting restricted and unrestricted assets
Maintain relationships with local financial institutions regarding debt management
Oversight of self-funded health insurance collaborative requiring extensive oversight and financial management
Oversight of 1099
Accounting & Reporting
Oversee all accounting functions, including general ledger, payroll, accounts payable, and receivable
Ensure timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports
Prepare reports for the Board of Trustees and Finance Committee
Produce the annual audit and tax filing and serve as liaison with external auditors
Tuition, Billing & Financial Aid
Oversee tuition billing, collections, and payment plans
Collaborate on financial aid budgeting and disbursement in alignment with school policies
Compliance & Controls
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local financial regulations
Maintain strong internal controls and financial policies
Financial oversight of insurance coverage, contracts, and financial risk management
Donor Relations and Endowments
Long term financial planning
Coordinates on all fundraising activities including annual and capital fundraising, major and restricted gifts with the Director of Advancement
Manage reporting platforms for annual giving - Bloomerang
Support the Advancement Committee for fundraising initiatives
Provide reporting on donor initiatives including grant reporting
Facilities and Real Estate
Responsible for financial oversight of all real estate transactions, campus projects and maintenance, and employee housing units
Manage financial relationship with the Aspen Music Festival and School
Serve as a liaison, along with the Director of Operations, to the Buildings and Grounds Committee
Leadership & Collaboration
Collaborate with admissions, advancement, and operations teams and serve as a trusted member of the Leadership team
Support strategic planning and campus initiatives with financial insight
Actively participates in the Aspen Country Day school community, outdoor education trips, and school ski days
Serve as a key partner to the Board of Trustees, Finance Committee and Audit Committee
Advise school leadership on financial risk management
Qualifications
Required:
Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, business administration, or related field
5+ years of progressive financial management experience
Strong knowledge of accounting principles, budgeting, and financial reporting
Experience working with boards or senior leadership
Preferred:
CPA, MBA, or similar advanced credential
Experience in an independent school, nonprofit, or educational setting is preferable
Familiarity with school financial systems and tuition management software
Experience with Risk Management, Property, Casualty and Liability Insurance as well as Worker’s Compensation Insurance and 1099 filing.
