The Kinkaid School seeks a dynamic, innovative teacher to join the Gordy Family Center for Leadership, Entrepreneurship, and Finance, starting August 2024. The ideal candidate will have experience teaching middle and/or upper school age children with proven success in connecting the content to students’ innate inquisitiveness and critical thinking skills. The Gordy Family Center Teacher will be called on to promote high levels of learning in an engaging and effective manner using a variety of instructional methodologies and curriculum resources. Reporting to the Director of the Gordy Family Center, this teacher will work closely with the administrations of the Middle School and Upper School divisions and work collaboratively with other members of the Gordy Family Center.
The Kinkaid School is a co-educational, non-sectarian day school enrolling over 1,400 students in pre-kindergarten through twelfth grade. Located on a sixty-five-acre campus in the heart of Houston, Texas, the School offers a thriving intellectual community in the midst of a vibrant, urban, diverse culture. With an enrollment of about 615 in the Upper School and 440 in the Middle School, Kinkaid fosters a learning environment centered on academic excellence, intellectual curiosity, and personal attention. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Ability to teach one academic class in economics and/or business and finance in the Upper School, one social studies class in the Middle School, and the equivalent of two entrepreneurship classes in the Middle School
Responsibilities include a full complement of Middle School duties (supervision of students and an advisory of 12 to 14 students)
Available time for additional responsibilities such as club sponsor, coaching, or teaching a course during Upper School Interim Term.
Enjoyment in teaching students across the entire range of grades (6-12)
Support the School, its mission, and its leadership
Engagement in the school community by attending athletic and art events
Collegiality and high professional standards
The natural ability to model Kinkaid’s Portrait of a Teacher and four core values (honesty, responsibility, respect, and kindness) in interactions with all members of the community
Bachelor’s degree in business, social science, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred)
Experience teaching with proven mastery in effectively delivering social science/business content
Core knowledge about the development of middle and upper school children
Passion for and experience with integrating technology into the curriculum
Strong communication skills (written and verbal)
Eagerness to grow professionally and remain current within the field
Commitment to collaboration and high ethical professional standards
