PowerSouth Energy Cooperative, headquartered in Andalusia, AL, is a generation and transmission (G&T) electric cooperative serving the wholesale power needs of 20 distribution members - 16 electric cooperatives and four municipal electric systems - in Alabama and northwest Florida. JOB SUMMARY & MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
The purpose of this position is to administer the community development program and the existing industry program as well as access, utilize, and develop federal, state, and private financing and funding for economic development property and infrastructure development. This position will serve as a member of the economic development team that provides comprehensive economic development on behalf of the members of PowerSouth Energy Cooperative. This position assists local economic developers by providing community development assistance to PowerSouth served communities. The position will arrange existing industry visits and coordinate with appropriate member systems and their communities. This position requires a Bachelor's degree in General Business, Marketing, Economics, Finance, Business Administration, Public Administration, Management, Planning, Geography, or a closely related field. Specific formal training in economic development, in addition to five (5) or more years of experience in economic development, finance, banking, or a closely related field is also required. Prior economic development experience within the electric utility industry is highly desirable as well as strong oral and written communication and public speaking skills. A comparable combination of education and experience will be considered. This position will work in the Montgomery, AL, area.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsible for implementation of community development programs to enhance community preparedness for future development and to recommend, promote, and participate in the formation of strategic infrastructure development and funding plans for PowerSouth, the member systems and their participating allies. Assists communities by providing or coordinating data resources, education and training and other community development related programs.
Develops and maintains expertise in securing and utilizing public and private sector financing tools with particular emphasis on public financing programs; promotes and coordinates preparation and submission of loan applications for PowerSouth andmember owners (as requested) and develops, implements and supports a PowerSouth revolving loan fund.
Implements and manages the PowerSouth Existing Industry program by coordinating with existing industries, PowerSouth members, local and state economic developers and other PowerSouth staff.
Seeks to develop and maintain a working knowledge of the member systems, the communities, industrial sites and buildings by review of community data and personal visits to selected communities.
Responsible for ensuring the success of PowerSouth by promoting team work, group goals and objectives, proper communication and cooperation within the department, division, throughout the PowerSouth organization and with member systems.
