The Blair Academy Business Office has an opening for an Assistant Director of Finance. This 12-month position will work closely with the Director of Finance and Chief Finance and Operating Officer to ensure that internal controls and policies in financial reporting are being followed and that all accounting is accurate. The successful candidate will collaborate with colleagues and have previous accounting and/or finance experience, ideally at a nonprofit organization or school.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Assist Director of Finance in producing accurate and timely financial statements on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis;
Maintain accurate financial records and ensure compliance with accounting standards (e.g., GAAP);
Assist with fund accounting, investments, capital spending and advancement activities;
Serve as liaison with Student Billing & Business Office Coordinator to ensure timely reconciliation of student activity in Tuition Management to general ledger;
Coordinate with the Business Office Associate to ensure timely reconciliation of student debit card account charges and billing;
File quarterly sales and use tax returns with the state of New Jersey;
Prepare recurring journal entries and assist in the month-end close process;
Prepare and distribute monthly budget vs. actuals reports to key budget managers for each department;
Reconcile all general ledger accounts and identify/resolve discrepancies in a timely manner;
Process Blair Academy Learning Center tuition bills;
Assist with internal and external audits; and
Assist with other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance and CPA with three to five years of experience (or equivalent) required;
High level of computer and technical skills using desktop software, databases and spreadsheets (Microsoft Office suite, most importantly Excel; Blackbaud experience a plus);
Experience in education or nonprofit preferred; and
Superior communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with students, families, vendors and colleagues
Salary & Other Compensation:
Base pay range $110,000-$125,000. Salary dependent on numerous factors, including but not limited to education and experience.
