Sponsored Programs is part of the Office of Research , a group dedicated to aiding the research community in navigating the lifecycle of their work, from finding funding to creating proposals to helping inventions find their way to the public.
The Director of Grants and Finance Shared Services leads a growing team that provides direct support for proposal development, preparation, and submission of proposals to Sponsored Programs as well as post-award financial account management for an assigned portfolio of faculty. This role represents Sponsored Programs in communication and collaboration with university administrative offices and with federal and private funding agencies for sponsored research. The Director will ensure we are providing seamless coverage and support during staff absences or high volume deadlines. In addition, the Director will be responsible for the hiring, continued professional development, mentoring, and training for Shared Services staff. The Director will be responsible for developing metrics and analytics and for ensuring the systems and tools supporting this work are providing maximum support and transparency. This position reports to the Associate Vice President of Sponsored Programs and will be expected to report out regularly to Sr. Leadership, Clients, and the research community at large. We are looking for a dynamic and inspirational professional who has the skills to lead and grow this new offering at Boston University. Bachelor's degree required, CRA (Certified Research Administrator Certificate) is preferred or a desire to sit for the exam. Minimum 8 years of related experience.
We look for candidates with a strong sense of customer service, curiosity and life-long learning, someone with the ability to develop, mentor and manage staff and communicate effectively with faculty and administrators. Candidates should have a wide breadth of experience in pre and post award administration, compliance across federal and non-federal sponsors. In addition, strong demonstrated analytical and business skills are critical to rigorous evaluation of the modeling and entrepreneurial management of Shared Services.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms and bend to lift items. This position requires the ability to occasionally lift office products, catering and supplies, up to 20 pounds.
