The Ralph J. Bunche Center for African American Studies at UCLA was established as an Organized Research Unit (ORU) with the mission to develop and strengthen African American Studies at UCLA. The Center supports research that (1) expands the knowledge of the history, lifestyles, and sociocultural systems of people of African descent and (2) investigates problems that have bearing on the psychological, social, and economic well-being of persons of African descent. Research sponsored and conducted by the Bunche Center is multidisciplinary in scope and spans the humanities, social sciences, fine arts, and several professional schools. Position Summary
Under the supervision of the Manager, the Finance and Operations Coordinator will provide overall fund management for an assigned fund portfolio, and will be responsible for providing financial support and performing duties as required and assigned to advance the Center's research programs and initiatives.Responsibilities will include fund management of permanent operating funds, gift funds, and external funding, managing accounting processes via purchase orders, special requests, one-time payments, grants, and travel reimbursements. The Finance and Operations Coordinator will facilitate budget development and monitoring, manage payment agreements, purchased services contracts and other vendor agreements, and will provide support on all personnel/payroll and student services. In addition, the Finance and Operations Coordinator is responsible for analyzing and resolving problems/discrepancies, monthly reconciliation, maintaining accounting files for audit compliance, preparing monthly detailed financial reports with projections, preparing various reports for internal or external use, preparing TOFs, salary cost transfers and expense transfers. The Finance and Operations Coordinator will provide back up to the Business and Operations Analyst, and is expected to have a working knowledge of UCLA policies and procedures as they pertain to finance, purchasing, and travel. Additional duties and projects may be assigned, as needed.
