Under the general supervision of the Director of Finance/HR, the Business and Finance Services Specialist at the Birch Aquarium prepares reports and analyses to include summaries of financial transactions and evaluation of current and proposed services for management review and decision-making. Using this information, prepare a variety of monthly financial reports. Conducts research, develops, and implements new and changing business processes. Maintain standards by aligning with the field's campus and university guidelines and best practices.
Additionally, the Business and Finance Services Specialist ensures that financial processing functions, which may include accounts payable, accounts receivable, purchasing, recharge billing, travel/entertainment, gift accounting, cashiering, and collections, are performed accurately, and that daily operations run smoothly. Reviews, processes, and approves standardized financial data and transactions. Effectively addresses moderately complex customer inquiries. Monitors the delivery of quality customer service to various constituencies, including internal department clients and external vendors.
Researches and gathers information from various sources; prepares and summarizes reports on new services, regulatory compliance issues, and/or vendor selection and support activities.
QUALIFICATIONS
A minimum of two (2) years experience with fund-based accounting in a university or related field.
Demonstrated experience and understanding of accounts payable and accounts receivable.
Working knowledge of financial processes, policies, and procedures.
Strong knowledge of financial data management and reporting systems.
Proficiency in the use of spreadsheet and database software.
Strong interpersonal skills, analytical skills, service orientation, active listening, critical thinking, attention to detail, ability to multi-task in a high volume environment, organizational skills, effective verbal and written communication skills, sound judgment and decision making.
Ability to function effectively as a member of a team.
Ability to adapt to changing priorities.
Intermediate knowledge and understanding of internal control practices and their impact on protecting University resources.
Skills to provide coaching and mentoring to support staff.
Experience in driving process improvement.
