The Department of Surgery is the third largest Department within Indiana University School of Medicine. We are committed to the education and development of excellent surgical clinicians, incorporating the skills, knowledge and competencies essential for providing a high standard of care to residents across the state of Indiana and beyond. Faculty educators in the Department of Surgery strive to advance surgical scientists and their research and aim to instill the leadership qualities that will empower graduates to excel in all practice settings. Currently, we are seeking an Associate Vice Chair of Finance to join our team to guide and partner with leaders regarding the financial operations of Surgery. This includes but is not limited to coordination and oversite of financial activities (accounting, budgeting, financial reporting, payroll and physician compensation functions) for Surgery at both the IU School of Medicine and our hospital partner group, IU Health Physicians.

Job Summary
This role will plan, direct, and coordinate the financial activities of the staff, the department, and its divisions, which includes budget development, physician compensation modeling, investment management, and resource management and allocation.
General Responsibilities
Directs the daily and long-term financial and/or administrative operations of multiple institution organizational units or a multi-faceted academic research and teaching unit within a school or college.
Responsible for accuracy, timelines, and the general integrity of the Health Services Administration family.
Controls all expenditures and statement of accounts to ensure regulatory compliance and fiscal integrity.
Manages complex revenues including internal and external sources.
Directs the management of general appropriation, endowment, federal and non-federal grants and contracts, and gift funds.
Prepares operating and project budget drafts. Creates annual revenue and expenditure budget for school or support unit.
Monitors functional area budgets and reports any significant deviations from approved budgets. Develops budgetary policies and procedures.
Responsible for supervising business support personnel.
Develops, plans, and directs special projects, which may include space renovations, space allocations, staffing, equipment purchases, long-range plans, leasing of off-campus space and services.
May oversee and direct variety of human resources activities including employment, labor relations, benefits, training, and classification for functional area.

Bachelor's degree in health services, finance, business, or related field.
Preferred
Master's degree
WORK EXPERIENCE
Required
4 years related functional experience.
1 year of management experience
Preferred
Experience with physician compensation modeling.

Ability to understand and interpret financial policies, regulations, and pertinent state/federal laws.
Advanced knowledge of financial statements and different budgetary models; ability to apply in different situations.
Knowledge of human resources laws and procedures as related to managing staff; Knowledge and understanding of the importance of mentors and mentorships.
Demonstrates ability to create workable solutions from broad concepts and ideas, projections, forecasting, and long term planning.
Working Conditions / Demands
This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.
Work Location
Indianapolis, Indiana
This position is eligible to work a hybrid schedule (mix between remote and in-person work), subject to change in the future based on university policy and business needs.
Advertised Salary
This salary for this position will be $110,000 - $120,000, commensurate with experience.
