SUNY Geneseo, distinguished by a legacy of academic excellence and a portfolio of first-place rankings, seeks an Assistant Professor of Finance for the College’s new Finance major. Geneseo is nationally recognized for its commitment to, and accomplishments in, undergraduate education, and the campus community provides a warm and dynamic learning environment for four thousand students.
The School of Business has a highly-regarded and long-established accounting program. Our vision in creating the Finance major was to build on the strong student interest shown in our Finance minor and the Student Managed Investment Fund ($750 K AUM, three Bloomberg terminals), and to make this new program as successful as our long-established Accounting major. Geneseo has CFA Institute Affiliated University Status and a record of very strong performance in the CFA Research Challenge.
Geneseo embraces the teacher-scholar model, and maintaining AACSB SA status is a prerequisite for tenure and promotion. The College’s 50-35-15 weighting for teaching, scholarship and service emphasizes our core mission of excellence in undergraduate education, while recognizing the many ways in which each fundamental activity of a tenure-track faculty contributes to other essential parts of our mission.
The School of Business has two full-time professionals who focus on internships and career preparation. The new Assistant should expect to interface with these professionals, mentor Finance majors as an aspect of the standard advising load, and occasionally interact with employers, alumni and other stakeholders.
Geneseo’s business programs combine a focus on technical preparation that qualifies graduates for entry-level jobs with broad liberal education that provides the surest foundation for long-term career success. Geneseo is the New York State member of COPLAC and the only college campus in the SUNY system to have a chapter of Phi Beta Kappa (PBK). School of Business students often graduate with two majors and several each year are routinely elected to Geneseo’s Alpha Delta chapter of PBK.
