Position Summary

We are seeking an on-site, interim Head of Finance with deep construction finance experience to lead, build, and institutionalize our financial operations. This is a hands-on leadership role for a professional who has personally owned WIP, cash flow, tax forecasting, and financial systems inside a contractor environment. Our business operates multiple construction entities generating $25M+ in annual revenue, with active WIP, bonded work, multi-entity tax exposure, and acquisition activity underway. The successful candidate will play a central role in building and strengthening financial controls, improving cash predictability, and supporting growth and integration initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Leadership & Operations

• Own and improve the monthly close process, ensuring timely, accurate, and consistent financial reporting across operating entities. Must understand inter-company transfers and General Ledger reconciliation.
• Develop and maintain executive-level financial reporting, including cash flow, backlog, WIP, AR, and margin analysis
• Establish financial policies, internal controls, and documentation to support scale and institutional readiness

 WIP, AR & Cash Flow Management

• Lead WIP accuracy, under/overbilling analysis, and job cost integrity
• Implement AR velocity tracking by project manager and client
• Build project-based cash forecasting tied to milestones, billing, and retainage
• Identify and mitigate working capital constraints

Tax Forecasting & CPA Coordination

• Develop a rolling 12-month taxable income forecast
• Implement quarterly tax accrual and cash reserve planning
• Serve as primary liaison with external CPAs on strategy, planning, and compliance

Banking, Bonding & Growth Support

• Own bank and bonding relationships, covenant monitoring, and lender reporting
• Support financial due diligence, modeling, and integration for acquisitions
• Partner with ownership and operations leadership on capital planning and growth strategy

Qualifications & Experience

• Senior finance leadership experience (CFO, VP Finance, Director of Finance, or Controller) in a $20M–$50M construction, Roofing, HVAC, mechanical, or specialty contracting environment
• Deep working knowledge of percentage-of-completion / PCM, WIP and under/overbilling mechanics, job costing systems and margin analysis, retainage and bonding dynamics, and construction cash flow cycles
• Experience with multi-entity structures and taxable income forecasting
• Strong operational mindset with the ability to work directly with project managers, AR/AP, and executive leadership
• Comfortable working on-site and driving process improvement in a live operating environment
• FOUNDATION Accounting Software knowledge is a requirement
