Job Description
This position exists to assist in and provide technical expertise in accounting functions for the college. A thorough knowledge of the college's accounting system is required as well as the ability to handle complex accounting functions in compliance with Federal, State, and Minnesota State Colleges and Universitiesâ™ policies and procedures. This position will also assist with the online bookstore.
This person will report directly to the Business Manager/CFO.Â
Minimum Qualifications
Customer service skills sufficient to provide prompt, courteous and accurate information to a variety of customers over the phone, in person and via email.
Knowledge of math skills sufficient to add, subtract, multiply, and divide numbers, and skill to make change, apply simple formulas, and calculate account balances and amounts owed. Ability to collect payments, count money, and complete transactions for customers.
Word processing skills to create, format, edit, and save documents using software, such as Microsoft Office Suite, and skill in preparing, editing, and finalizing emails, memos, invoices, letters, and contracts that are grammatically correct and properly formatted.
Knowledge of basic accounting procedures to prepare itemized statements, bills, invoices, and record amounts due for items purchased or services rendered, and knowledge of accounts receivable and computerized billing systems to enter, access, and correct information. Skill in accounting sufficient to reconcile differences between invoices, receipts, and purchase orders, and assess needs based on data and events affecting the account. Skill to prepare and manipulate a spreadsheet per instructions.
Preferred Qualifications
Diploma and/or AAS degree in Accounting with one (1) year of work experience performing accounts receivable functions and/or an accounting specific position.
Advanced skill in using Excel desired to create reports, charts, sort, format, perform calculations (average, if/then statements, sum), filter data, use subtotals, import and export information between other Microsoft products.
Ability to quickly learn new software as position expands in responsibilities.
Strong organizational and multi-tasking skills in order to identify priorities and meet timelines with limited supervision.
Data privacy knowledge and skills to adequately enter and handle data that is confidential and personal in nature.
