Finance Specialist III - AHDC
The Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM) seeks a Finance Specialist to join and support the Animal Health Diagnostic Center (AHDC). The Financial Specialist is vital to the AHDC;s financial health, managing diverse accounts and ensuring accurate and timely execution of financial activities. This role requires a strategic thinker who can provide insightful financial analysis and reporting to support planning, decision-making, and compliance with financial regulations. In this role, you will report to and work closely with the Director of Operations and Business, Rocky Kambo.
The job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Accounting Expertise: Apply advanced knowledge of academic and enterprise accounting principles to maintain accurate financial records and reports. Perform complex accounting procedures and account reconciliation to support daily financial operations.
- Account Management: Manage all AHDC operational and key contract accounts. Maintain accurate records, monitor for appropriate activity and deadlines.
- Financial Reporting: Prepare and present detailed financial reports to key stakeholders, unit and senior leadership as required. Provide insights into the financial health of the organization, track performance against budgets and forecasts, support planning and decision-making.
- Budget Support: Assist with creating and managing a multi-million dollar budget, ensuring efficient allocation of resources and adherence to financial goals.
- Financial Compliance: Ensure that financial practices comply with regulations and contractual agreements.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in finance, business administration or accounting with at least three (3) years of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Strong accounting background with experience in higher education and large enterprise environments.
- Working knowledge of budgeting and accounting principles and practices, along with financial analysis, forecasting.
- Advanced proficiency in financial software and tools, and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Knowledge of financial regulations and compliance requirements.
- Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
- Ability to cultivate and develop inclusive and equitable working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and community members.
- Experience in and/or demonstrated commitment to supporting diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and well-being.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in finance, business administration, or accounting.
- Five (5) years of relevant financial accounting and reporting experience.
- Familiar with financial management systems and databases used at Cornell University; Kuali Financial System (KFS), Oracle Analytics Server (OAS), Web Financials 2 (WebFin2).
Important Details about the Position
- This is a hybrid position with the expectation of 4 days per week in the office and 1 day per week remote.
- We are unable to provide Visa sponsorship, now or in the future, for this position.
- Relocation assistance will not be provided for this position.
This position is 40 hours per week and is exempt from accruing overtime. While normal business hours are 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, specific schedules may differ or change to meet the needs of the business, requiring employees to work early mornings, evenings, weekends, University holidays and scheduled breaks.
