Al-Quds Bard (AQB) was founded in 2009 as a pathbreaking partnership between Al-Quds University and Bard College. Through this dual-degree partnership, AQB students earn degrees that are both US and Palestinian accredited, in a course of study centered in the arts and sciences. AQB awards undergraduate degrees in the arts and sciences, as well as three graduate Master degrees.
The Finance Assistant/ Accountant works closely with AQB Finance team in Abu Dis and in New York, as well as multiple AQU administrative departments, including Finance, Human Resources, Information Technology and Public Relations and Registration.
Position Overview:
Role: Finance Assistant/Accountant
Location: Al-Quds Bard College for Arts and Sciences (AQB), Al-Quds University (AQU) Abu Dis
Start Date: October 1, 2024
Contract Duration: 12 months, with a 3-month probation period
Reporting To: AQB Assistant VP for Finance and Administration, with regular communication with the Associate Finance Manager and the Chief of Administrative Operations.
The full-time Finance Assistant position includes the following main area responsibilities:
Budget Assistance:
Assist AQB faculty in drafting and revising budgets for various grants and projects, thinking critically to identify the impacts of budget/finance decisions on program logistics.
Monitor budget performance and advise on budgetary adjustments.
Grant Management:
Review financial aspects of multiple grant agreements, including federal and private funding.
Assist with drafting service and overtime contracts.
Coordinate with project directors and colleagues at Bard College (New York) to ensure grant compliance.
Financial Reporting and Reconciliation:
Create periodical financial reports for multiple projects, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
Prepare payment requests for grant-related expenses and ensure proper documentation.
Assist with conducting periodic financial reconciliation for AQB accounts.
Assist with analyzing financial discrepancies and recommend corrective actions.
Administrative Support:
Follow up with the grants department at AQU to facilitate timely payments and resolve payment issues.
Assist in preparing and processing payment requests, ensuring accurate recording of receipts and payments.
Maintain and update financial records and documentation for auditing purposes.
Provide administrative support for the new early college program, to be known as the Al-Quds Bard Preparatory School
Compliance and Policy Adherence:
Ensure compliance with university and grant-specific financial policies and procedures.
Assist in the development and updating of financial policies and procedures.
Assist in preparing for and support internal and external audits.
Required: Bachelor?s degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field.
Experience: Minimum of 3 years of experience working with NGOs and donors.
Preferred: Relevant experience in financial management and grant administration.
Skills and Attributes:
Strong organizational and communication skills.
Experience in financial management and grant administration.
Ability to work collaboratively with various departments, cultures, and stakeholders.
Attention to detail and strong analytical skills.
Advanced proficiency in English, including excellent written and verbal communication.
Willingness to work flexible hours, including longer hours when necessary; for example, for meetings with international colleagues.
