Medgar Evers College (MEC), a nationally recognized leader in urban-serving education, is one of twenty-five colleges within the dynamic City University New York (CUNY) System. The Finance Controller reports to the Senior Vice President of Administration and Finance/ Chief Operating Officer or their Designee and is responsible for the management of the Finance Office of Medgar Evers College. The Controller supervises staff in relation to college-wide financial reporting and compliance.
In addition to the CUNY Title Overview, typical duties include:
Oversees financial policies and procedures of the Accounting, Accounts Payable, Budget, Bursar, Business Services Property Management, and Purchasing.
Oversee the daily operations of the Tax-Levy and Non-Tax Levy entities, which includes banking, cash receipts and disbursements, monthly closings, reconciliations, and analysis.
Develop and maintain appropriate cost-effective control standards over cash disbursements and receipts for all Tax Levy and Non-Tax Levy entity funds.
Represent Medgar Evers College at CUNY financial reporting forums.
Interact with outside accountants in the preparation of all audited financial statements.
Ensure compliance and monitor new developments in external and internal accounting policies, regulations, and systems Initiatives impacting the financial reporting unit.
Responsible for ensuring college compliance with GAAP, GASS, and all appropriate City, State, Federal fiscal policies and regulations.
Develop and maintain training and cross training programs to develop staff and provide absence coverage and succession planning.
Assist other Medgar Evers College units in financial reporting and control activities.
Assist other units of Finance by functioning as proxy representative during scheduled absences and scheduling conflicts.
In concert with the operational risk/internal control manager, address audits and self-assessment initiatives and resulting corrective actions.
Directs and oversees the accounting functions for Auxiliary Enterprises, Student Faculty Association, Educational Foundation, the college's Child Care Center, and the Office of Adult and Continuing Education.
Performs other related duties as assigned by the Senior Vice President of Administration and Finance.
The Finance Controller is excluded and therefore, not represented by a union.
Bachelor's Degree and eight years' related experience required.
Experience with Microsoft Office and Excel essential

Directs the financial functions of a College or unit.
Directs financial operations for various funds and accounts
Ensures compliance with all appropriate City, State, Federal and GAAP accounting and regulatory policies
Reviews risk assessments, identifies internal control weaknesses and implements appropriate corrective actions
Manages day-to-day accounting functions including staff supervision in relation to closings, reconciliations and analyses
Oversees the accuracy and integrity of all financial statements, revenue projections and other reports as required
Develops effective policies and procedures for fiscal operations, and incorporates University-wide policies and standards
Performs related duties as assigned.
