Job Description:
Under the direction of the Assistant Controller, the Staff Accountant II position is responsible for preparing journal entries; reviewing general ledger accounts; performing account analysis and reconciliations; and assisting with financial reporting, all of which are expected to be performed in a timely and accurate manner. This position specializes in cash, investment, fixed asset and general accounting. The Staff Accountant II is expected to work independently, resolve issues, and provide effective and timely communication to the Assistant Controller and the larger MSMU community.
Position Monthly Range: $5,546.67 - $6,000.00
Duties and Responsibilities:
Prepares assigned monthly journal entries, including for investment activity transactions
Tracks and reconciles bank account transactions daily, and prepares monthly bank account reconciliations in a timely manner
Monitors monthly fixed asset and deferred maintenance transactions, and prepares annual capitalization entries
Prepares monthly reconciliations of general ledger account balances. Investigates and resolves discrepancies found during the reconciliation process
Tracks capital call activities related to MSMU endowment, as well as downloads and reviews investment K-1's in preparation for the annual audit
Assists with annual audits performed by the University's independent auditors by preparing schedules, analyses, narratives of accounting transactions and processes as well as responding to various inquiries and information requests
Assists with the preparation of annual financial statements and 990 reports
Prepares annual IPEDS and other third party reports as assigned
Assists with managing access rights and permissions related to the Colleague General Ledger and Self- Service software. Coordinates access rights to Prophix with the Budget Director.
Performs additional special projects and/or other duties as assigned
Requirements:
Knowledge:
Must have familiarity with accounting principles
Must have solid working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite applications with above average skills on Excel
Must have solid working knowledge of ERP accounting systems
Familiarity with Colleague and Informer is a plus.
Familiarity with banking transactions and relationships
Familiarity with Fund Accounting is highly desirable

Strong organization and prioritization, interpersonal, basic mathematics, customer service, data entry and very accurate typing
Education:
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Accounting
Experience:
3+ years of experience directly related to job description
Experience in fund accounting is a plus
Experience in Higher Education is a plus
Licenses and Certifications:
CPA is desirable
