Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Finance Manager for the Department of Medicine, within the New Jersey Medical School. The Finance Manager provides support to senior leadership within the department and coordinates the flow of work and information within a complex organizational structure, and is responsible for keeping special projects on task. Financial responsibilities includeoversight of all financial and related activities for a large, complex department, having multiple financial initiatives, including very large grants, patient billing and revenue, and the management of a significant budget. Manages the department financial office; performs analyses to identify revenue collection issues and other trends; reconciles and controls expenses; and, develops business plans under the direction of the director of administration and the department chairman.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
Ensures that projects and initiatives are completed diligently and on time and coordinates the reports of project members for the department administrator and the chairman.
Communicates executive-level decisions and strategies to ensure that all other staff members carry out new mandates in a manner that is consistent with the mission and values of the institution.
Ensures the continued viability of programs through sound fiscal and strategic leadership by reviewing and analyzing financial reports, supporting and advising senior leadership in decision making, and overseeing the reporting and monitoring of organizational performance metrics.
Provides leadership in the development, implementation and monitoring of financial plans that reflect strategic initiatives and operational priorities of the department.
Participates in strategic planning in concert with the organization's goals which contribute toward market growth, revenue enhancement, cost containment/maximizing productivity, and the operational priorities of the department.
Supports the development of an annual operating budget, ensuring it aligns with strategic priorities, and champions its acceptance by senior leadership, manages effectively within this budget, and reports accurately on progress made and challenges encountered.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree.
At least 7 years of progressively increasing experience in a financial management role in an academic medical school or related healthcare setting.
At least 1 year of supervisory responsibility.
Experience with spreadsheet applications software.
Equivalent experience, education and/or training may be substituted for the education requirements.
