One of the world's leading institutes for research and programs on South Asia, the Institute for South Asia Studies (ISAS) at the University of California, Berkeley works with faculty members, graduate students, community members, private institutions, and non-profit organizations to deepen understanding of the region and to create new generations of scholars of South Asia.

Responsibilities
Prepares reports and statistics based on information compiled from various specified sources.
REPRESENTATION OF THE CENTER: Staff the ISAS reception desk, main phone line, and central email account.
Responds to written, telephone and drop-in inquiries about ISAS and South Asia related matters, ISAS grant programs, events, areas of faculty expertise, graduate and undergraduate programs, Institute support opportunities and outreach.
Updates and maintains Web pages using basic knowledge of web editing tools.
Prepares responses to routine correspondence.
Prepares purchase orders by researching and recommending vendors/prices/equipment and may identify substitutes.
Manages supervisor's calendar, which may require negotiating time and place.
Makes travel arrangements, negotiating with hotels, et cetera for best logistical arrangements for rooms.
Develops filing systems, internal mailing processes and procedures.
Assists in preparing budget for contract and grant proposals; monitors expenses; transfers funds.
Oversees administrative and logistical arrangements for conferences involving multiple parties, receiving limited direction.
Determines special room and equipment needs.
Required Qualifications
Working knowledge in administrative procedures and processes including word processing, spreadsheet and database applications.
Verbal and written communication skills, active listening, critical thinking, multi-task and time management skills.
Knowledge of campus and UC policies relating to purchasing, invoicing and payments for services.
Must be organized and detail-oriented.
High school diploma and/or equivalent experience/training.
Preferred Qualifications
Interest in South Asia.

Under California law, the University of California, Berkeley is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role and should not offer a salary outside of the range posted in this job announcement. This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, analysis of internal equity, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience.
The budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $25.20 (step 1.0) - $25.74 (step 2.0).
This is a 100% full-time (40 hours per week), career position that is eligible for full UC benefits.
This position is non-exempt and paid bi-weekly.
This is a hybrid position, eligible for 20% remote capability.
