Overview
Princeton University seeks an experienced and highly motivated individual to serve as Grants and Finance Manager in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering. Reporting to the Business Manager, the position will be responsible for pre- and post-award activities related to sponsored project grants and internal awards. The position works closely with faculty in CEE, faculty and staff in other Princeton departments, and externally with other academic institutions.
Responsibilities
Approximately 60% Pre-award grant management: Assume role of administrative leader for submitting sponsored research proposals, including providing guidance on relevant policies and procedures, developing timelines and checklists for needed documentation, working collaboratively with faculty and grants administrators at Princeton and other institutions to coordinate timely submissions. Prepare proposal documentation as needed, including budgets, budget justifications, biosketches and current and pending documents in accordance with sponsor requirements. Prepare grant proposal submissions through Princeton ERA and through electronic systems for the funding agency. For internal submissions, assist faculty in developing required budgetary and other documentation as needed.
Approximately 20% Manage post-award activities on sponsored research grants: Monitor spending to ensure that grant expenditures are on track with the original proposal budget. Prepare revised budgets and budget justifications as required. Initiate subaward/agreement processes in Princeton ERA; initiate request for no cost extensions. Submit journal entries and cost transfers to correct inaccurate charges. Monitor cost sharing commitments. Prepare post-award expenditure reports on internal awards.
Approximately 15% Labor accounting: Coordinate with department administrators and faculty concerning funding allocations for faculty summer salaries, researcher salaries and graduate student stipends. Submit funding allocation data in labor accounting system. Coordinate biannual wage certification process with faculty.
Approximately 5% Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Preferred Work Experience ⢠Grants management experience in an academic setting. ⢠Demonstrated ability to understand and interpret complex federal grant requirements and compliance issues.
Essential Work Experience ⢠The successful candidate will have exceptional attention to detail, demonstrate initiative and work independently in a fast-paced environment, and have strong organizational skills. ⢠The position will involve intensive communication with individual faculty members and other researchers in the department, and would require advanced interpersonal and communication skills. ⢠Knowledge of financial analysis and projection, accounting processes and budgeting. ⢠3-5 years related work experience. ⢠Experience and fluency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) and Adobe Acrobat Pro applications.
