Receives assignments in the form of objectives with goals and the process by which to meet those goals. Responsible for supervising the day-to-day unit activities. Normally directs a section or group of budget / financial / resources analysts. Oversees and participates in the most complex projects and deals directly with major department managers. Provides direction according to established policies and management guidance.
The Finance Manager provides strategic and analytical support for the financial resources of the department and financial oversight of a portfolio of Clinical Sites and Sponsored Post-Award Research accounts. She/he/they is responsible for managing a team comprised of finance and research administration analysts. The incumbent is also responsible for development and oversight of Orthopaedic Surgeries multiple recharge operations. In addition, she/he/they is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining standardized business processes to ensure efficient, consistent, and compliant practices regarding budgeting, contract and grant management & financial controls for all Orthopaedic Surgery programs and services.
She/he/they partners with department leadership and investigators to improve financial operations workflow, identify bottlenecks, and implement an optimal strategy to support financial management. She/he/they routinely liaises with the School of Medicine, Executive Vice Chancellor & Provosts Office, Office of Research, Controller's Office & Medical Center on issues related to the fiscal management of the institute.

Please note: The compensation ranges listed online for roles not covered by a bargaining unit agreement are very wide, however a job offer will typically fall in the range of 80% - 120% of the established mid-point. An offer will take into consideration the experience of the final candidate AND the current salary level of individuals working at UCSF in a similar role.
For roles covered by a bargaining unit agreement, there will be specific rules about where a new hire would be placed on the range.
