Position Summary
As a member of the Controller's office staff, the Finance Business Systems Analyst - Research is responsible for the ongoing support of the university's research functions within the ERP administrative systems, Oracle Cloud ERP, primarily the Project Portfolio Management (PPM) module with a lesser degree to the Financial Management module. In addition to research, the PPM module also houses the ERP functions related to Capital Projects. As such, this position will be required to conduct workflow analysis, provide recommendations for system design and/or corrective actions, perform testing of software updates, and ensure the timely resolution of problems within the application via normal change control processes.
Office hours are Monday through Friday from 8 am to 5 pm; extended working hours and weekend work is required one weekend a quarter for cloud software updates
There is some flexibility in schedule and the ability to work remotely.
Salary: $95,000 - $115,000
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree
- In lieu of the education requirement, additional related experience, above and beyond what is required, on an equivalent year for year basis may be substituted

- Skills Required
- Excellent client-facing skills working closely with internal and external parties to gather business requirements for business processes
- Demonstrated ability in report building, dashboard design, and reporting catalog management.
- Ability to compile user requirements and specifications for reports and collaborate with internal team on user acceptance testing and post change validation.
- Strong SQL knowledge and experience with SQL reporting tools such as SQL Connect.
- Familiarity with Oracle Cloud ERP, Oracle Analytic Cloud, OTBI or other closely related finance information systems, financial reporting or dashboard solutions.
- Advanced skills in using Microsoft Office tools to include how to create macros, pivot tables, advanced formulas, and how to import and manage data.
- Understand how to create a business functional specification that aligns to a technical design document.
Essential Functions
- Plans and manages and leads analyses and studies of business processes, functions and requirements
- Provides consultation and expert advice to leaders and other business stakeholders on technical, systems, or process related topics
- Designs and develops models and practices to support sound business decisions
- Determines best practices and recommends improvements to current practices
- Identifies, analyzes, creates and recommends solutions to improve business processes and operations
- Creates and manages project plans, including change management and technical implementation
- Plans, designs, and recommends reporting and dashboard enhancements to improve and support business activities for all of campus for PPM related functions.
- Develops reporting and dashboard enhancements for the central finance function to improve and support business activities for PPM related functions.
- Facilitates meetings with financial team members to gather and document requirements.
- Develops business functional specifications to support enhancement requests.
- Analyzes and documents business requirements and processes and communicates these requirements by constructing conceptual data and process models, including data dictionaries and volume estimates as needed.
- Works with the research and capital projects functional teams to create test scenarios and develop test plans to be used in testing the business processes, reporting, and dashboards in order to verify that requirements are incorporated into the system design and that the design is operational. Assists in analyzing testing results and improves test cases.
- Coordinates applicable functional and cross functional team members participation on testing and validation efforts.
- Participates in all testing activities including quarterly updates, reporting sprints, and other testing events.
- Ad-hoc reporting and data gathering as they relate to internal exercises such as audit and compliance.
- Performs all other duties as assigned
Additional Functions
- Advises customers on options, risks, and any impacts on other processes or systems
- Validates configuration and data
- Stays up to date on any changes or upgrades to existing technology around his/her responsibilities; develops and delivers training on new systems and processes
- Documents inconsistencies/ issues/ concerns for follow-up and /or resolution by the software vendor(s) as needed
Preferences
- Bachelor's degree in MIS, Computer Science, Engineering, Accounting, Business
- Two to three years of Oracle ERP Experience in a functional support role
- Experience with Oracle Analytics Cloud
- Understanding of database-driven applications
