Role
The Senior Director of Finance and Accounting will be responsible for all aspects of the fiscal responsibility and financial reporting and analysis oversight for a group of Real Estate Funds and Direct Investment Vehicles. This position will be responsible for all aspects of month-end close, monthly consolidations for multiple funds, financial reporting, and analysis and will provide cash management for the funds, and explanations for high level variance analysis as well. In addition, the Senior Director will prepare quarterly reporting to investors and budgeting for the funds as well and will work closely with the CFO on special projects with high visibility to and interaction with ownership and senior management.
Responsibilities
Strategic partner with the Company leadership; expect to offer recommendations for improvements in the Company’s accounting/organizational processes, operational procedures, and reporting functions.
Responsible for the day-to-day management of the accounting and financial reporting for multiple Funds as well as the operating companies
Review of financials, including footnotes, for accuracy and completeness
Meeting all internal and external reporting deadlines, including audit, tax, investor and third party
Supervision of staff to ensure quality and productivity within the department
Management of technical research and application of US GAAP measures to accounting issues pertaining to investment companies
Assist in resolution of complex accounting issues occurring in the investments and the Funds
Automation and documentation of processes as needed within the department
Professionally interacting with ownership, management, and other departments
Work with the FP&A Team to analyze reasonableness of fair market value calculations on the investments within the Fund
Review / analyze capital structures for investments to understand / determine what the accounting data should look like between Fund and investments
Perform any additional responsibilities that may be required by management in support of the ongoing development of the department
Responsible for the day-to-day management of the accounting and internal reporting on the investments owned by the real estate Funds
Oversee the annual audit of the Funds, investment-level audits, and work with our external tax team to complete the annual tax returns
Assist and support the asset managers and property managers in the preparation of annual property budgets
Special projects as directed by senior management
Qualifications
Minimum Bachelor’s Degree in Finance or Accounting, Graduate Degree preferred
Currently licensed CPA
Strong technical experience related to investment accounting. Strong knowledge of partnership and investment company accounting e.g., equity and dividend methods with demonstrated ability to resolve complex accounting issues
Strong working knowledge of and ability to apply generally accepted accounting principles in the preparation of financial statements and in accounting for transaction of the Company
8-10+ years professional work experience, prefer Top-Tier public accounting combined with partnership accounting, investment company accounting, and/or real estate accounting with at least five years of experience in a Senior Manager or Controller level position, preferably with a multi-location real estate company or a large national/regional accounting firm
Supervisory experience managing accounting staff, including general accounting, property accounting, accounts payable, and fixed assets
Highly experienced in Financial Statement preparation, including consolidations and footnotes
Experience in private-equity and registered investment advisor (RIA) compliance issues, including but not limited to ensuring adherence to company ethics policies; reviewing and approving stock trading transactions; and monitoring conformity with insider trading rules, supplemental employment and other limited or prohibited employee activities.
Advanced Excel skills
In-depth knowledge of Yardi required with specific knowledge of and substantial prior experience. This position will be the “go to” resource for Yardi knowledge in the Company.
