Reporting to the Vice President for Administration and Finance, the Assistant Vice President, Finance and Business directs the Business Office, comprised of the Bursar, Budget Office, Controller, Accounts Payable, Payroll, Property Management, and Purchasing. The Assistant Vice President for Finance and Business is the college's internal control officer and audit liaison.
The Assistant Vice President, Finance and Business is responsible for the following:
Direct internal control of campus-wide self-assessment process and overseeing college audits
Oversee financial reporting to the University and financial audits
Manage CUNY board resolution process for procurement according to mandated threshold amount
Ensure streamlined and effective business operations in all departments reporting to the AVP
Align goals and objectives with college strategic initiatives
Document policies, protocols and procedures
Prepare internal financial reports as required
Attend CUNY meetings and convey relevant information to the college
Perform all other tasks assigned by the VPAF
This position is also required to understand business principals and techniques of administration, organization, and management to include an in-depth understanding of key business issues that exist in the higher education industry. These include, but are not limited to, knowledge of strategic and operational planning, higher education economics, personnel administration, federal, state and local laws, marketing, financial and cost analysis, and trends in the higher education industry
QUALIFICATIONS
An MBA or related degree and minimum of eight years of progressively responsible experience in upper management in higher education or another large organization of similar complexity.
Experience in accounting, budgeting or financial services required
Strong written and oral communication skills required, including an ability to communicate financial information
Excellent customer service stills
Highest level of professional integrity
Demonstrated ability to manage an effective team and collaborate with others

This position is in CUNY's Executive Compensation Plan. All executive positions require a minimum of a Bachelor's degree and eight years' related experience.
