DIRECTOR OF FINANCE
Job Description
Leading the Business Office Team and reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, The Director of
Finance is responsible for the fiscal operations of the school.
Essential Responsibilities
Manage the accounting department, ensuring accurate and timely financial information in accordance with US GAAP
Supervise the Business Office Staff, establishing proper segregation of duties and maintaining internal controls
With Business Office staff, oversee purchasing, payments, debt, investments, banking, payroll and benefits programs
Secure an annual external audit of the school’s financial statements and retirement plan
Prepare all necessary schedules for the filing of Form 990
Complete all necessary membership surveys (NAIS, NBOA and others)
Monitor cash flow and borrowing
Review and approve semi-monthly payroll
With COO, Head of School, and division and department leaders, create and monitor office budgets
Supervise billing and collection of tuition and fees, including for all auxiliary programs, development events and building rentals
With Head of School, Director of Admissions and Enrollment Management, and COO, oversee financial-aid decision-making
Oversee and administer additional support programs for financial aid students
Ensure compliance with lending covenants, audit standards and with all regulatory and funding agencies and the rules of accrediting bodies; initiates change where required
Assist COO as needed with the negotiation and monitoring of third-party contractual obligations, such as construction and professional services and contract and grant proposals
Serve as liaison with the school’s Investment advisor
Report to the Board of Trustees Audit, Finance, and Retirement Committees
Perform miscellaneous projects as assigned by the COO and Head of School
Qualifications
Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in accounting, master’s preferred, and five years’ experience in non-profit accounting, including managerial experience
