Job Overview
The Managing Finance Partner serves as a strategic financial and administrative partner to the leadership of McCourt School of Public Policy and its programs. They are responsible for ensuring that McCourt School staff, faculty, and students receive high quality administrative support in a manner compliant with university policies and procedures.
They also direct and manage the comprehensive business affairs of the programs, including management and analysis of departmental budgets and regulatory compliance as well as collaboration on, information systems, human resources, training and development, and safety and security., and regulatory compliance.
The Managing Finance Director directs, manages, and leads the daily operation of multiple organizational units or multi-faceted academic and research departments within a School; and sets the strategic financial direction and leadership of financial and administrative performance.
They work in close coordination with the Chief of Operations and Administration who manages and leads unit operations, which may include space, staffing, equipment, and leasing. As well, they develop short- and long-term goals, oversee resource allocation to meet projections and priorities; control expenditures and account statements to ensure compliance and fiscal integrity; and develop, plan, and execute special projects and typically manages budgets above $40M.
Work Interactions
The Managing Finance Director oversees all planning and execution activities for the designated units. Primarily focused on planning, they are the top point of escalation on issues within the school, supervise work for deputy and planning analysts. They also focus on planning and analysis, internal controls, and approvals of critical day-to-day activities to ensure congruence with budget and projections.
The Managing Finance Director works closely with the Chief of Staff on Human Resources, Space, Operations, and other administrative matters for the school.
Qualifications
Master's degree - preference for Business or Accounting major [note: consideration will be given to a Bachelor's degree plus substantial experience in closely related fields]
Ten years of progressively responsible leadership and supervision in finance and administration, preferably in higher education
Building and utilizing financial models; business analytics expertise
Proficiency with complex financial and longitudinal planning, financial forecasting, and revenue and expenditure management
Expert level of proficiency in Excel
Experience managing complex teams
Experience establishing and managing budgets of at least $x and in using electronic financial management tools to track revenue and expenses, generate reports, and perform financial analysis and modeling
Demonstrated experience with complex strategic planning and resource allocation
Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite, with a mastery of Excel
Well-developed managerial, decision-making, planning, organizational, analytical, problem-solving and leadership skills
Demonstrated ability to manage complex teams on a day-to-day basis and inspire a high level of commitment and performance
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school leadership and departmental and program staff, as well as with the Office of the Provost, Human Resources, Financial Affairs, and other University offices and departments
Adaptability and flexibility
Attention to detail
Ability to triage and solve complex challenges and requests
Service oriented, professional demeanor and a team orientation - that is, avoiding 'that's not my job'
Ability to work well under pressure, in a high paced environment, and have a sense of humor
Strong time management skills, with the ability to prioritize work and multi-tasking to meet deadlines

Preferred qualifications
Master's degree or higher in Business or Finance
Professional Accounting qualifications
Experience in Workday, Adaptive, and Cognos
