Shrewsberry is a national MBE/DBE civil engineering and consulting firm. We are seeking an experienced, financial leader to serve as the Director of Finance. In conjunction with the Principals, the Director of Finance is responsible for the firm’s long-term financial health and growth, by implementing strategies that continually improve profitability. This role will oversee accounting operations, complete financial analyses, and produce insightful reports to help improve/change current practices to increase efficiency. Additionally, the Director of Finance will oversee contract administration, cost estimating and pricing, and project controls functions. This role will provide oversight and coordination of operating reports and statutory filings, establish and maintains financial controls, and manage a staff of project accountants/finance professionals. Ensures that all corporate and required accounting policies and procedures are documented and followed by the firm. The Director of Finance will facilitate training the finance & accounting staff, as well as coordinate with external auditors.
The ideal candidate will have strong financial leadership, planning, analysis, and reporting experience. This candidate will also possess strong analytical skills, be deadline driven with a strong focus on speed, accuracy, and business partnership.
The Director of Finance will report to the President and will be responsible for all corporate reporting & forecasting.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities • Drive the financial health of the Firm by analyzing its performance and risks • Maintain constant awareness of the Firm’s financial position and act to prevent problems in conjunction with Principals • Oversee the financial ERP for the firm; lead/support transition to a new financial system (ERP) • Communicate operational performance trends, historical results and forecasts using appropriate templates and KPIs. • Create reports that will be used by the firm’s executives, senior leadership, business development, and operations. • Provide monthly/quarterly reports by Business Areas containing results, variances, forecasts, etc. • Postmortem with project closeouts (e.g., revenue/margin realization versus contract) • Establish and maintain Shrewsberry’s financial policies and procedures and provide operational administrative direction to the accounting, contracts, budgeting, tax, and insurance functions • Manage all accounting functions including, but not limited to General Ledger, Payroll, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Accruals, and Billing • Preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and analysis of financial results. • Establish and monitor internal control framework including oversight of monthly reconciliations and controls • Partner with other departments in the financial planning, forecasting, and budgeting process • Oversee Firm's audits with the independent auditors & associated tax returns
Education and/or Experience
Required • Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Accounting • Minimum of 8 years of relevant experience, at least two (2) years in supervisory or management positions • Proven experience as a director of finance or similar role • Demonstrated expertise in financial planning, forecasting, analysis, reporting, and budgeting • Excellent leadership skills; outstanding communication and interpersonal skills • Experience in a dynamic, medium to large company environment (architecture engineering construction industry with multiple branch offices preferred) • Advanced Microsoft Office skills including Excel, PowerPoint, Word, etc.
Preferred: • Master’s of Business Administration a plus • Knowledge of federal and state wage laws • Demonstrated ability to cultivate cross-functional relationships, work in a growing, continually evolving environment, and drive financial business initiatives. • Excellent analytical skills combined with high integrity, keen business judgment, ability to communicate effectively with senior management, yet work well with all levels of staff. • Familiarization with accounting and finance methods in accordance with GAAP and the Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR) is a plus
