Job Description Summary
Supports the provost and revenue-generating units of Academic Affairs, including but not limited to Graduate Programs, Institutes, and Leadership and Professional Development. This position is responsible for all accounting functions including audits, reconciliations, and, budgets, and financial reports and maintains all financial, contracts, compliance, administrative and technical services policies and procedures for the Academic Affairs Revenue Generating Ecosystem (AARGE). This position will perform market research, financial trend analysis and forecasting for AARGE initiatives to ensure they are aligned with the revenue goals of the university. Serves as the Academic Affairs liaison for finance and budgeting, human resources and capital projects/use of space.
Responsibilities
Finance and Accounting
In collaboration with Financial services, oversees, monitors, reports on, and implements all reconciliation initiatives in accordance with the University’s standards and best practices; Ensures financial transactions’ ethics and compliance
Responsible for adherence to University, State, and Federal guidelines, policies and laws and all Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
Oversees, monitors, and reports on all financial and budget transactions for AARGE; Creates trial balances for financial transactions
Oversees internal controls and financial risk management practices for AARGE
Provides short and long-term budget forecasts and revenue projections for AARGE
In collaboration with the Coordinator of Fiscal Operations in Academic Affairs, provides the status of the financial condition of all Academic Affairs funds (operating, restricted, and endowed) by coordinating, analyzing, and reporting key financial data. This includes financial performance, budget projections, and other special projects as required; Produces quarterly, and ad hoc annual financial reports
Communicates and implements all fiscal year-end closing procedures
Oversees any financial and internal control audits
AARGE Support
Works with Institute, Leadership and Professional Development, and Graduate programs leadership to maximize net revenue
Acts as student accounting office for AARGE
Performs due diligence, market analysis and financial projections for existing and proposed programs.
Handles instructor/adjunct faculty payroll, contracts, and contractual compliance
Oversees implementation of compliance initiatives
Files financial reports for SACS accreditation for AARGE
Provides resources and expertise for go/no-go decision making for revenue generating activities of the AARGE.
Oversees Graduate Studies and Leadership and Professional Development responsibilities in Budgets, Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, Student Services, Procurement and Strategic Sourcing, Student’s Accounts, Financial Aid, Admissions, Information Services, Registrar.
Grants Office Support
Review proposal submissions to ensure financial and human resource portions are feasible
Translate, develop and enforce Furman financial and compensation policies related to grant requests
Understand how financial information for grants is presented in Workday.
Answer grant-related questions about compensation and salaries of individuals in academic affairs
Work with Finance to issue stipends for grantees.
University Support
Trains staff and faculty of AARGE to maintain continuous improvement with standards of conduct and requirements of Human Resources and Fiscal offices
Develop an expertise in Workday as the functional lead in academic affairs for all things related to HCM and Finance
Attends University meetings in Human Resources, Accounting, Planning and Budget, Information Services, Procurement & Strategic Sourcing, Compliance, contracts, Risk Management, and accreditation
Work in conjunction with Facilities Management on space allocation and capital projects.

Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or Economics, with 5+ years of experience; Preferred MBA
Experience with budgeting, financial projections and revenue generation
Experience with financial systems and advance knowledge of excel
Experience in higher education finance preferred
Venture or investment firm experience preferred
Ability to effectively communicate complex financial information to individuals with varying levels of financial expertise
Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills
Strong desire for innovation and continuous improvement
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting with 5+ years of experience; Preferred MBA
