Position Summary:
The Director of Finance & Operations reports to the Head of School and oversees Accounting/Finance, Facilities & Transportation, and HR. The DFO leads the school’s business office, is the conduit to many of the school’s external stakeholders and oversees an accounting team of two as well as other department leaders. This position will manage the close process and internal/external financial reporting, all third-party relationships and contract reviews, the yearly budgeting process, Board reporting, be a member on multiple internal committees, and generally be a sounding board to the Head of School for projects big and small in this fast-paced, ever-changing environment.
Qualifications Summary:
The school’s environment is fast-paced, diverse and entrepreneurial, so this position requires a creative and innovative financial leader who understands the flow of life in a school environment and who is high on the social/emotional spectrum. Some tangible qualifications include:
Bachelor’s degree in business administration, accounting, or finance is required.
Experience at least at the Controller level, but preferably the Director of Finance, VP of Finance or CFO level of an independent school is preferred.
In lieu of direct professional independent school experience, someone with a connection and exposure to independent schools is highly preferred.
Strong experience leading the HR function of an organization is preferred, otherwise strong knowledge of HR (benefits, onboarding) is required.
Confidence in leading an annual and ongoing budgeting process is required.
Displays an understanding of working with educators as their clients in a professional setting gained from professional or personal experience.
A strong desire to work for an educational organization.
