UW Medicine Finance has an outstanding opportunity for a Program Financial Analyst, Finance Analytics Tools. This individual will provide database management, support and training for the analytical and reporting tools used by the Finance Department (as well as other Finance and Accounting teams) in the areas of business planning, profitability analysis, encounter performance and costing on behalf of UW Medicine. These tools include but are not limited to: SQL Server, Syntellis Performance Manager (PM) and Explorer, Microsoft Power BI, Tableau, TIBCO Spotfire, Business Objects, Slicer Dicer, Epic Data Marts, and a number of custom databases and self-service reporting tools. This position requires the ability to read, understand and write programming logic based upon financial, operational, and clinical specifications along with creating definitions and specifications where they do not exist. This individual will also perform analysis to support the financial decision making of the organization as well as to assist in the management/reduction of operating costs of UW Medicine through reporting and analysis to ensure the long-term profitability of UW Medicine. In addition, this position will work with UW Medicine IT Services around data ingestion, integration, validation and extract development associated with core, centrally-supported systems.
The Program Financial Analyst serves as an integral member of the Finance team. With a focus on supporting the efficient and accurate provision of financial information to facilitate decision-making, this position will interact with physician and system leadership, service line managers, and other Analysts. Further, this individual will need to understand the hospital/professional billing data and general ledger data to be effective.

Applications: SQL Server Management Studio, Microsoft Power BI, Tableau, TIBCO Spotfire, Electronic Health Records (e.g. EPIC, Cerner), SAP Business Objects, Syntellis Healthcare Analytics programs (Performance Manager, Business Insight), Microsoft SQL Server products (SSMS, SSIS, SSRS), MS Excel, MS Access and/or other database or statistical tools and systems as needed.
Position Responsibilities: •Provide technical support, training and expertise to analysts within the Finance and Budget teams. Ensure appropriate tools and resources are in place and leveraged effectively to support the team’s analytical work. •Develop improved methods and user tools for service line financial reporting, program analysis, costing, reimbursement, and compensation models with a focus on automating routine reporting wherever possible. •Create automated dashboards/tools (Microsoft Power BI , Tableau, TIBCO Spotfire, etc.) via SQL programming in a data warehouse environment •Perform database management tasks for Syntellis PM and other custom databases, in support of analysis around business planning, profitability, encounter performance and costing. •Participate in standardization projects and implement agreed-upon processes across the enterprise. •Perform ad-hoc analyses on a variety of topics including profitability, operations, resource utilization, and research requests. •Keep current on relevant industry tools and trends. •Research and Documentation - Analyst will collaborate in the development of requirements, criteria and documentation to meet enterprise and departmental needs. This documentation is critical to successfully creating a valid, reliable and sustainable process for delivering results. •Meetings & Communication - Analyst will be responsible for participating in discussions and reaching consensus on technical programming specifications, and documenting the decisions and policies agreed upon at meetings to support the analyses. Analyst also will prepare presentations and may be responsible for delivering the results to a wide variety of audiences as appropriate.
Minimum Requirements •Bachelor's degree in an aligned discipline in healthcare, finance, analytics, programming, mathematics, statistics, or associated discipline. •Ability to prepare complex financial analysis and interpretations with a high degree of accuracy. •Ability to formulate recommendations and interpret financial information. •Experience in healthcare programming and analytics (ideally finance), experience with EHR (ideally EPIC). •Experience with programming languages (ideally SQL), BI tools, and visual display tools (e.g., Microsoft Power BI, Tableau, TIBCO Spotfire). •Demonstrated ability to use and research appropriate algebraic, applied mathematical, statistical, and complex reasoning skills required for analytic work. •Ability to work independently, and as part of a team, understands input and feedback as an opportunity to improve the work and has the curiosity and propensity to research and pursue the best outcomes. •Conversant with medical coding, including ICD-10, MSDRG, APC, HCPCS, and other grouping logic used in the industry. Ability to translate coding to patient populations in a hospital setting. •Understanding of medical terminology including clinical terms, language, coding, and basic healthcare clinical terminology.
