Hotel Finance Specialist (Hybrid): SC Johnson College of Business

Our Team:
The Budget and Finance Team within the SC Johnson College of Business supports strategic and transactional financial operations across our three schools, our central college unit, the Statler Hotel, and across our two campuses in Ithaca and NYC. This team consists of individuals who take a progressive approach to financial planning and reporting, utilizing data-driven techniques and tools to support our College's mission and enhance our organizational effectiveness.
This Position:
Under the direction of the Hotel Controller, the incumbent in this position serves as the Finance Specialist for The Statler Hotel. This position is heavily involved in the hotel's monthly financial close and works independently to prepare complex journal entries related to cost of goods sold, payroll, prepayments, accruals and capital in the local hotel financial system and KFS. This position is responsible for developing and maintaining financial reports, performing account reconciliations, and assisting the Hotel Controller with the preliminary review of financial results. This position will also review account reconciliations, track and summarize capital expenditures, coordinate the monthly labor forecast process, review forecast input for reasonableness and report actual results compared to forecast. Will assist the Hotel Controller with the annual hotel budget and reforecast process and maintains the hotel's chart of accounts.
Required Qualifications:
- Associates degree in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration with two to three years working experience in a business office environment and knowledge of accounting fundamentals.
- Ability to perform data analysis and general ledger reconciliation.
- Strong communication, organizational and time management skills required, including the ability to accurately balance multiple priorities established by the Hotel Controller.
- Must be able to work under pressure, demonstrate initiative and ownership of tasks assigned. Have accuracy, attention to detail, troubleshooting and investigative skills required. Good judgment and confidentiality with sensitive financial data.
- Adherence to BSC and organization's protocol, supervisor review and approval procedures. Priority to uphold the ethical and code of conduct standards of Cornell University, the SC Johnson College of Business and the BSC.
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook. Maintains adequate and appropriate documentation of work and data sources.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration with two to three years of experience.
- Work experience in the hospitality industry would be helpful. Knowledgeable about the University's Kuali Financial Systems (KFS), Longview and dashboards.
- Experience working with SunSystems, Opera front office and Micros point of sale systems.
