Ask anyone at Wilmington Friends School and they will tell you it is a special place with a very kind, respectful, and inclusive culture. Supporting this general ethos are many highly dedicated and well tenured staff that are always seeking to question, refine, and improve the school. As the school approaches its 275th anniversary, the morale is very high with several projects to help the next Director of Finance & Operations (DFO) make a positive and meaningful impact.
Founded in 1748, Wilmington Friends was one of the first schools in the country to provide a kindergarten. The student body is 90% non-Quaker, appealing to a diverse group of families seeking the four essential outcomes of Quaker education. Those beliefs of the unique dignity of every person, the “continuing revelation” through seeking, experiencing, and reflecting, the values of stewardship, peace, integrity, community, equality, and simplicity, and finally, the importance of reflection and mindfulness.
The DFO reports directly to the Head of School, Ken Aldridge, and will act as an essential and trusted partner in guiding the school through its next phases of strategic planning and financial and operational excellence. The successful candidate will possess superb financial acumen, excellent organizational skills, a highly collaborative work style, and a customer-centric mindset. An experienced and thoughtful listener with an innate ability to inspire confidence will ensure an easy acclimation. This individual will join a very special community that is filled with many long tenured and highly dedicated administrators, faculty, and staff. A depth and breadth of knowledge beyond financial management to include operations and facilities experience, as well as a deep commitment to and alignment with the school’s mission and values will help to ensure success for the school’s next DFO. A commitment to understanding of and comfort with the Quaker broad inclusion and thoughtful decision-making process will be essential.
Founded in 1748, Wilmington Friends School (WFS) is the oldest independent school in Delaware and the eleventh oldest in the nation. WFS is a preschool through 12th grade Quaker day school enrolling approximately 700 students.
