This position serves as a principal advisor and helps to develop and implement the financial strategic direction in support of our scholar-athlete experience. Will serve as a trusted advisor to Athletics senior leadership regarding the financial operations and financial strategy of the department. Additionally, this role will lead the efforts in forecasting, budgeting, reporting, monitoring, and managing all of Athletics daily and long-term financial activities.
Reporting to the Sr. Director of Athletics Business Operations, this position is responsible for providing extensive analytical support, budgetary planning, and analysis of budgets and financial activity for 23 National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA) Division I intercollegiate athletics programs. Develops complex reports for the NCAA, Big West Conference (BWC) and governmental agencies. Independently responsible for the tracking and allocation of complex funding sources that include Athletic Fees, gift/endowment funds through UCSD Foundation, self-supporting income, and independent auxiliary revenue. Responsible for the annual budgeting process, the fiscal management of all athletics scholarship funds, and independently performs special high-level analytical and forecasting projects. The position analyzes financial trends which are unique to an Athletic program's fluctuations in revenue and expenditures, with attention to gender equity in the distribution of resources according to Title IX legislation.

Bachelor's degree in a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Typically, four (4) years of progressive experience in athletics administration, budget oversight, strategic budget planning and athletic procurement required.
Responsible for the preparation, oversight, and management of the athletics budget.
Prepares and monitors the annual budget within university guidelines.
Provides fiscal analysis for the University's athletic teams and supports programs to include reconciling and distributing budget reports, forecasting year-end revenues and expenses, and provides other financial analysis as required.
Thorough knowledge of finance policies, practices, and systems. Thorough knowledge of public accounting systems, policies and procedures, including accounts payable, payroll, travel, entertainment, purchasing, contracts, discounts and taxes. Demonstrated ability to adhere to fiscal year-end closing policies and procedures.
Knowledge and applications of principles of fund accounting. Ability to understand how the flow of various funds (athletic fee funds, gifts and endowments, self-supporting and auxiliary income) is budgeted to support team operations, scholarships, salaries, and athletic programs.
Ability to independently gather required information to organize and perform financial analysis assignments. Strong experience in investigating and analysis on the business processes and contractual agreements of athletic programs.
Proven ability to effectively present information verbally and in writing in a clear and concise manner. Must have demonstrated experience in clearly and concisely conveying technical information, both written and verbal, to a broad audience.
Extensive experience extracting, summarizing, manipulating and compiling data and designing reports that summarize information in concise and meaningful formats that are easily digestible. Experience in documenting results of reporting procedures, requirements, and reports, in a highly organized fashion both with internal collaborators and external stakeholders with minimal review and oversight.
Proven ability using spreadsheet and database software for complex financial analysis, fiscal management, and financial reports. Excellent knowledge and demonstrated experience in using administrative software packages and tools including Microsoft Office (specifically Excel pivot tables, conditional formatting, charts, graphs).
