This position is a full-time, exempt opportunity with a competitive salary. Hiring between 25th and 75th percentile of range ($120,000- $210,000) for the role. Reporting directly to the CFOO, The Director of Finance and Administration will be a strategic thought partner who leads and develop an internal team to support finance, business planning and budgeting, and administration. This is a critical role that partners with the senior leadership team in strategic decision making and operations (operating budget of $27MM). This position will oversee annual budgeting, functions of audit, tax, and all financial plans to monitor progress and changes. They will manage organizational cash flow and forecasting and daily financial operations of the organization, including accounts payable, student billing, payroll, benefits administrations, fixed assets, and accounting.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Other duties may be assigned)
Analyze financial reports in an accurate and timely manner; clearly communicate monthly and annual financial statements and performance; Prepare financial reporting materials for all donor segments, and oversee financial budgets, project/ program, and accounting.
Supervise student billing operations, including re-enrollment contracts, tuition billing, financial aid processing and statement generation and review.
Works with families on certain student billing matters, such as custom payment plans and collections.
Supervise general and accounts payable/ receivables operations, payroll processing, and benefit administration.
Coordinate and lead the annual financial and 403(b) retirement plan audits. Prepare, review, and resolve reporting issues or changes of data for the annual IRS Form 990, 990-T, 5500’s,1099 forms, and all other Federal, State and Local tax filings.
Prepare all annual surveys and compliance reports for various school industry organizations as well as other internal and external requests.
Work closely with Advancement Office to ensure all gifts are properly recorded and to assist in preparing annual stewardship reports.
Implement a robust contracts management and financial management/ reporting system; ensure that the contract billing and collection schedule is adhered to, and that financial data and cash flow are steady and support operational requirements.
Update and implement all necessary business policies and current accounting practices; improve the finance department’s overall policy, communication, and procedure manual to stay current on new regulations and relevant non-profit issues.
Provide support to CFOO in effectively communicating and presenting critical financial matters to the Finance Committee and for other Board-related meetings.
Work closely and transparently with all external partners including third-party vendors and consultants.
Collaborate with HR, IT, and Operations to support the development and monitoring of new and existing organizational plans and projects that ensure efficient and consistent operations.
Attends Finance, Audit, and Risk Committees of the Board of Trustees.
Consults and works with legal counsel, financial advisors, auditors, and other professional service firms as necessary and appropriate.
Serves on Financial Aid Committee.
Bachelor’s degree required; MBA and/or CPA preferred.
At least 7 years of overall professional experience; ideally 5-7 years of accounting, with a minimum of 3 years financial and operations management experience.
Experience on senior administrative teams and working with non-profit Boards
Familiarity with not-for-profit management theory and practice, and a thorough competency with GAAP.
The ideal candidate has experience of final responsibility for the quality and content of all financial data, reporting, and audit coordination, in a related educational or another non-profit organization.
Technology savvy with strong knowledge of accounting and reporting software. Experience working with and overseeing implementation and training of ERP systems; Blackbaud experience highly preferred.
Ability to translate financial concepts to – and to effectively collaborate with -- programmatic and fundraising colleagues who do not necessarily have finance backgrounds.
