The Sherman Family Foundation has funded initiatives, focused on Baltimore, to prepare educators to teach in City Schools, to support academic instruction and out-of-school time enrichment for children and families, and to conduct research and evaluations on these efforts. |
Position Overview: | The Business Services Specialist is an essential colleague who will help us with overall task management of fiscal, budget, and business services matters of the Sherman Center. This dynamic position engages a cross section of UMBC units, Sherman constituent groups (i.e. scholars, alumni, and UMBC students), and external partners (i.e. school systems and school staff). |

Telework: | A hybrid telework schedule may be available for Maryland residents. |
Responsibilities: | Specific duties include: - Coordinate with Human Resources, AAOU Shared Services Center, and Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships for hiring, payroll, and scholarships
- Review and verify financial reports and support reconciliation and reimbursement efforts
- Initiate payments, contracts, and procurement of good and services, including overseeing departmental credit cards
- Assist with grant proposal preparation and administration
- Assist leadership by providing financial information for strategic planning support and identifying areas of improvement or efficiency related to business processes

Required Minimum Qualifications: | - Requires a High School Diploma/GED
- Six years progressively responsible experience in a combination of budgeting, accounting, payroll, purchasing, and personnel work.
Note: Additional related experience and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of the work may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 college credits being equivalent to one year of experience. - Ability to apply basic analytical skills to review expenditures and revenues, prepare forecasts, and reconcile accounts
- Strong organizational, communication (written and verbal), and interpersonal skills
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential matters with discretion and tact
- Proficiency in using various computer software packages
- Key strengths include a strong commitment to UMBC and PreK-12 student success and an understanding of and sensitivity to equity and inclusion.

Preferred Qualifications: | Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration or a related field is preferred. |
