The Bing Overseas Studies Program is seeking a Director of Finance and Administration (DFA) to provide management and coordination of complex administrative, regulatory, and financial functions of the unit. The DFA reports to the Associate Vice Provost and Executive Director of BOSP, and is an integral member of the BOSP senior leadership team. This position is actively engaged in strategic planning for administrative, financial, and business support processes and functions that enable the administration of Stanford study abroad and away programs. Works directly with Stanford's centers in Berlin, Cape Town, Florence, Kyoto, Madrid, New York, Oxford, Paris, and Santiago. The DFA directly supervises four staff members, who administer the central administrative and business support functions of BOSP, and manages an annual operating budget of approximately $20M.
The Bing Overseas Studies Program (BOSP) offers Stanford undergraduates the opportunity to study abroad while remaining enrolled at Stanford and is considered an integral part of the Stanford curriculum. The demographic breakdown of BOSP participants closely mirrors that of the entire Stanford population. Approximately 50 percent of each graduating class studies abroad on a BOSP program during their undergraduate career at Stanford.

Your responsibilities will include:
Direct staff and provide leadership to achieve goals and vision of the organization and the day-to-day operations. Responsible for direct supervision of (2) Accountants, (1) Global Operations Manager, and (1) Administrative Coordinator in the home office and dotted line responsibilities for finance administrators at each of BOSP's global centers. Responsible for hiring and retaining staff, career coaching, professional development for direct reports and accountable for the performance of employees.
Oversee and manage the finances across all sources for the annual budget cycle, including developing, monitoring, analyzing, forecasting, and reporting of a complex budget totaling roughly $20M, supporting 9 global centers operating in multiple currencies.
Develop and execute effective systems of financial controls that meet both Stanford and international financial standards.
Develop business plans and infrastructure to support teaching and other academic and experiential learning activities and programs occurring internationally. Provide analysis and review of multi-year plans, including providing alternative methods for achieving goals when necessary. Influence faculty leadership on specific recommendations for current operation and for future development of the organization and lead process improvement.
May independently or in collaboration with human resources managers, guide Associate Vice Provost, Executive Director, Faculty Director, and global Center Directors in the interpretation and implementation of human resources policies, procedures and programs.
Interpret, implement and ensure compliance with university academic and administrative policies and procedures within an operating unit. Recommend new internal policies, guidelines and procedures.
Manage and coordinate grants and contracts for the department. Ensure compliance with institutional and external requirements.
Represent BOSP's business and academic operations within the organization. May represent BOSP to external constituencies such as; Global Business Services, Global Human Resources, Controller's Office, Global Risk Management, Internal Audit, Office of General Counsel, and other internal and external partners.
Analyze BOSP needs and make recommendations to leadership for changes in staffing, facilities, health and safety, regulatory compliance, finance, technology and other administrative functions.
Provide oversight for facility issues within the home office and Stanford global centers. Facilities range from university-owned, leased, to entirely managed by third party providers. As appropriate, liaising with campus and local partners, provide oversight of major maintenance, repair, and/or construction projects on facilities abroad.

To be successful in this position:
Bachelor's degree and five years of relevant experience in administrative and financial management, or combination of education and relevant experience.
Demonstrated leadership and supervisory skills, including conflict resolution.
Excellent planning and organizational skills.
Strong communication skills.
Advanced financial expertise in accounting, budget planning and financial forecasting.
Demonstrated ability to manage administrative, technical, financial, and operational needs of a multinational organization.
Demonstrated ability to anticipate and plan for tax, legal, financial, and HR/employment related considerations required to facilitate global initiatives.
Demonstrated ability to analyze and manage the budgetary implications of currency fluctuations.
Attention to detail and accuracy.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Ability to multi-task and manage deadlines.

Cultural awareness and sensitivity with the ability to bridge the behaviors and needs of other countries with the legal and financial needs of the U.S.
Knowledge of procurement processes and policies, especially related to international contracts and special payments.
