The Finance Department offers undergraduate majors in finance, real estate, and insurance and risk management. The department also offers a Master's in Finance and a graduate Certificate in Investments. The Finance major is the second largest in the college and in the top 5 across the University. In addition, the insurance and risk management major has grown from zero to one of the top 15 nationally in seven years.
The Finance Department houses several centers that bring together academia and practice by connecting students, faculty, and practitioners in a variety of formats. The Johnson Investment Institute (JII) brings together practitioners and research faculty. An important goal of the JII is providing students and faculty with access to state-of-the-art software and real-time data. To that end, the JII manages the Johnson Investment Counsel Investment Lab. The simulated trading floor found in the lab is a focal point of innovation within the new Lindner Hall. The Carl H. Lindner III Center for Insurance and Risk Management seeks to understand and improve how economies, enterprises and individuals manage risk. The UC Real Estate Center is a resource for students and industry leaders to network and become immersed in the real estate industry. The Real Estate Center actively supports (1) corporate and industry-association partners, (2) scholarly research aimed at top-tier academic journals in real estate, urban economics, and finance, and (3) several undergraduate and graduate real estate programs.

Job Overview
The Department of Finance, Real Estate, and Insurance and Risk Management at the University of Cincinnati Lindner College of Business is seeking candidates to fill a tenure-track, open rank position (rank/title commensurate with credentials) to teach in its undergraduate and graduate programs in real estate (RE) and finance.
In addition, highly qualified applicants may also be considered to serve as the Academic Director of the University of Cincinnati Real Estate program and the West Shell Chair in Real Estate. The Real Estate program consists of an undergraduate major and minor (serving approximately 250 students in total), a graduate certificate in Real Estate, and is part of the department's Master's in Finance.
Lindner Finance, Real Estate, and Insurance and Risk Management faculty are recognized for excellence in research; publishing in and providing service to the leading academic journals, and actively participating in leading academic and professional conferences. The faculty are also recognized for excellence in teaching, demonstrating innovation and commitment vital to student success. We nurture faculty as impactful thought leaders and institution builders, empowering professional development within our collegial, diverse, and vibrant community.
The Department of Finance, Real Estate, and Insurance and Risk Management is currently endeavoring to increase its engagement with industry in order to improve its ability to place undergraduate and graduate students in industry careers, recruit potential graduate students, encourage members of underrepresented groups to pursue careers in real estate, and foster research collaborations throughout the college.
Essential Functions
- Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in real estate and finance.
- Conduct scholarly research in real estate, urban economics or related fields, including finance and economics; disseminate that research by publishing or presenting at conferences.
- Serve on departmental and college committees related to topics such as recruiting, teaching, curriculum, research, promotion and tenure, or faculty development.
The duties of the Academic Director role include:
- Leadership concerning strategic, operational, and academic initiatives and partnerships related to scholarly research and degree and/or non-degree educational programs.
- Advise undergraduate and graduate students.
- Ongoing curriculum review and development.
- Outreach to the real estate industry including property development and management professionals/associations in collaboration with the Center's ongoing Executive Director. Note that the Executive Director is the point person for industry outreach and engagement; the Academic Director's role will be to support these activities.
Minimum Requirements
Prior to the effective date of appointment:
- All ranks: Ph.D. in Real Estate, Finance, or a related field.
- Appointment as an Associate or Full Professor: evidence of thought leadership in real estate, finance, or a related field as demonstrated by at least two peer-reviewed publications in Real Estate or related areas and at least two other works in progress (e.g., papers under review at a journal or working papers in progress but not yet submitted). In addition, must have experience teaching at least two undergraduate or graduate courses in Real Estate or related areas.
