POSITION DETAILS
Brooklyn College invites applications for a Finance Specialist position in the Office of the Comptroller.
Reporting to the Finance Manager, the Finance Specialist coordinates financial matters for the Brooklyn College Foundation (BCF). The Finance Specialist analyzes its investment and restricted accounts, ensures compliance with state and CUNY rules and regulations and participates in campus finance committees.
The Finance Specialist performs the following duties:
- Analyze BCF investment accounts, administering the unitization model for endowed funds
- Analyze restricted accounts for scholarships and professorships, and make appropriate recommendations to the Comptroller
- Review unrestricted budget and financial information with accounting and development staff for reporting. Reviews all financial documents and assists with managing annual audits and tax-filing requirements, including form 990 preparation
- Ensure compliance with CUNY guidelines regarding foundations and other regulatory requirements including continued adherence to the NY Prudent Management of Institutional Funds Act (NYPMIFA)
- Review current accounting processes, standards and other requirements and make recommendations to Comptroller for improvement
- Participate in Audit and Finance, and Investment Committee meetings and draft meeting minutes. Prepare related annual reports
- Submit required investment and banking documents to appropriate manager or financial institution as directed by the BCF investment committee and senior management
- Maintain template for BCF transactions to facilitate mid-year and year-end uploads to the CUNYfirst system
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's Degree and four years' related experience required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in a higher education environment preferred.
- Experience in accounting, financial analysis, and report preparation a preferred.
- Knowledge in Financial Edge Accounting Software and CUNYfirst a plus.
- Strong attention to detail, strong written and verbal communication skills are essential.
- Must be able to work in a hands-on, team-oriented environment.
