AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:

The Director of Finance maintains a high level of technical competence in the administration of accounting functions, including compliance with state and federal regulations related to general accounting, sales tax, and 1099 reporting. The Director is responsible for consistent compliance with accounting policies and procedures in the Office of Finance and for maintaining a system of processes and procedures that will, at a minimum, satisfy Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.

SPECIFIC DUTIES:

1. To promote the mission and support institutional objectives of Hodges University.
2. To adhere to all FERPA requirements to include maintenance of all department documents, discussions and records.
3. To provide the highest level of professionalism and customer service to all constituents.
4. To maintain all department documents, discussions and records in the strictest confidence.
5. To develop and implement policies and procedures.
6. To oversee the finance, financial reporting, financial forecasting, general accounting, accounts payable, and payroll and benefits.
7. To file the sales tax returns with applicable states on a monthly basis.
8. To maintain compliance with federal and state regulations with regard to accounting.
9. To assist with the annual financial statements audit.
10. To stay current on recent federal, state and case law changes and monitor tax law updates.
11. To take responsibility for accounting compliance including IRS, DOL, ICE, SEC and other applicable regulations.
12. To participate in administrative staff meetings and attend other meetings and seminars.
13. To participate in evaluation of reports, decisions, and results of the department in relation to established goals. To recommend new approaches, policies and procedures that lead to continuous improvements in efficiency of department and services provided.
14. To participate in the institutional effectiveness planning process in support of the University's regional accreditation.
15. To manage the maintenance of electronic accounting and financial records database.
16. To perform other related duties as required and assigned by the Assistant Vice President of Finance and Administration.
17. To attend department meetings and student recognition ceremonies, as required, including graduation ceremony.
18. To oversee the production of annual 1099 tax forms
19. To prepare annual IPEDS reporting.
20. To oversee Payroll & Benefits.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor's degree required.  A minimum of five (5) years of experience in public accounting is strongly preferred.  Master's degree is strongly preferred and may be substituted for up to two (2) years of previous public accounting experience. A CPA license is strongly preferred. Must have excellent interpersonal communication skills, written and oral communication skills, and the ability to interpret and implement complex state and federal regulations.  Previous supervisory experience is strongly preferred
