Responsibilities This position is to serve as the Department of Surgery's post award contracts and grants finance analyst. The incumbent will be responsible for contract and grant fiscal and administrative management, financial analysis, and daily business operations. Account management includes: analyzing expenditures charged to the accounts, ensuring consistency and compliance with federal, state, university-wide and sponsoring agency policies, and following generally accepted accounting principles. Incumbent must use project management skills to develop goals and completion timetables, establish financial procedures, prioritize tasks, and communicate with others.
The scope of duties will also include purchasing of research supplies, materials, and equipment. This position will be responsible for managing grant cost recovery entries and payroll management for all individuals on grant funding. This includes the analysis of policy, exercise of good judgement, and accountability to ensure the faculty are fully supported in their research efforts. Ensures compliance with departmental, UC Davis, and federal policies related to research funding.
Required Qualifications - Applicants are encouraged to upload license and certification if required of the position.
- Experience performing analytical work, analyzing complex information, performing independent research, presenting complex data in a way that facilitates decision-making and making strategic recommendations.
- Experience preparing financial reports, developing financial projections (long and short term).
- Advanced spreadsheet, word-processing, database, presentation, and e-mail software skills (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint), and ability to design user friendly accounting reports.
- Strong organizational and time management skills to establish goals, prioritize and coordinate multiple work assignments and deadlines.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to present and communicate technical and non-technical information clearly, concisely, and effectively to a variety groups of individuals.
- Demonstrated experience at exercising administrative judgment and assuming responsibility for decisions, consequences, and results having an impact on people, costs, and/or quality of service within functional area.
- In-depth knowledge of federal and/or private grant administration, analysis, and financial reporting policies.
- Solid knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and University accounting policies and procedures.
- Demonstrated experience and working knowledge of financial and payroll systems (including Decision Support and UC Path), or similarly complex administrative systems.
- Ability to complete tasks accurately, neatly, and quickly under pressure of deadlines and other duties.
Preferred Qualifications - Prior experience managing a portfolio of external grants and contracts.
- Experience with contracts and grants financial systems such as Cayuse and Effort Reporting.
- Experience working directly with faculty and the ability to maintain respect and confidentiality.
- Skill to organize and manage multiple projects simultaneously and to set priorities to effect project completion within stated deadlines.
- Prior experience with UC Davis financial systems.
Special Requirements - This position requires using a computer monitor and keyboard for extended periods of time. Incumbent must see well enough to read from a computer screen and various handwritten and printed materials.
- Must be capable of presenting a professional and compassionate image while interacting with faculty, staff, and the public.

- May be required to work a flexible schedule
- Must be capable of working in an office environment with frequent interruptions and distractions, and frequent traffic noise from telephone conversations, visitors, faculty, and staff.
- Must maintain a safe work environment.
- Must have ability to run errands requiring use of a motor vehicle.
- Must be ability to lift items weighing as much as 25 lbs.
- Must adhere to strict confidentiality policies.
