Carnegie Council for Ethics in International Affairs is an independent, research-driven nonprofit that works to empower ethics by identifying and addressing the most critical ethical issues of today and tomorrow. The Council is seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented financial assistant to join our finance team. Knowledge of general accounting and bookkeeping practices, as well as a strong work ethic, are required. You will assist with the day-to-day tasks in our finance department and play an integral role in maintaining account information. This position will also be responsible for planning and coordinating arrangements for on- and off-site meetings and virtual and in-person events and assisting in overall facilities operations. The position is based in New York with an expectation to work in the office three days per week.
Main responsibilities
Help with financial data entry and general bookkeeping
Manage data, records, and reports by checking for errors and verifying accuracy of information
Prepare receipts, vouchers, invoices, etc. for entry into data sheets
Organize and maintain purchase receipts and payment records
Assist in preparation of financial statements and reports
Assist in creating and setting budgets
Update and maintain financial records
Prepare spreadsheets for data entry, including budgets, accounting information, etc.
Maintain and update grants reporting budgets
Independently prioritize daily tasks and responsibilities
Attend and take notes at all financial department meetings
Collaborate actively with the Council’s accounting team
Coordinate budgetary planning across various departments with project managers
Assist with audits as necessary
Adhere to current accounting/finance laws and regulations
Assist with planning and coordinating arrangements for on- and off-site meetings and virtual and in-person events
Undertake general office work, such as electronic filing, maintaining program records, preparing correspondence, responding to requests for information, etc.
Other duties as needed or required
Qualifications:
Associate's or Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field preferred
Mathematical and accounting acuity
Professional demeanor and excellent customer service skills
Knowledgeable in basic accounting/bookkeeping practices and processes
Adhere to current accounting/finance laws and regulations
Computer knowledge and experience using Microsoft Suite (mainly Excel) and QuickBooks
Strong organizational and time-management skills
Thrives working both independently (a self-starter) and collaboratively
