Associate Director for Finance and Operations manages the School of Foreign Service budget and works with partners in the Office of the CFO to manage the financial operations. They lead and ensure the timely and efficient execution of all financial aspects of their school's daily operations. Responsibilities include oversight of financial operations, management of actual financial performance, review and oversight of HCM and research expenditures (with help from HCM and Faculty Affairs staff in SFS) and other activities directed by the CFO for their school.
Work InteractionsIn a key position on the SFS team, the
Associate Director for Finance & Operations reports directly to the Senior Finance Director for their school. They have several dotted line reports from the OCFO that help with financial operations (accounting, grants, and procurement) and work with the CFO and Directors of Finance to lead the coordination of all budgeting, planning, actual reporting, and year end projections within the School of Foreign Service.
They oversee the procurement and expense analysts' day-to-day activities for the financial management service center, coordinating work and giving guidance on policies and procedures, and serving as a liaison between the Office of the CFO and their school. As well, they coordinate with planning counterparts, ensuring the analysts understand and support the functional activities for execution.
The Associate Director regularly collaborates with other Associate Directors for Finance & Operations from schools and administrative areas and is a member of the Main Campus Financial Operations Working Group that is coordinated and led by the Campus Director for Financial Accounting and Compliance from the Provost Finance Office.
They serve as a team leader, helping to organize the budget process and ensuring budget and forecast data requested by Main Campus of the OCFO is entered into the system on time. Though responsibility for entering the data is shared, the Associate Director makes sure the schedule is clearly communicated and facilitates the process.
Qualifications- Bachelor's degree in business or accounting - preference for Master's degree
- 8+ years of progressive work experience financial analysis and budgeting in a sophisticated office environment
- Relevant financial acumen (budgeting, transactional support, revenue-generating activities, chart of accounts, reporting, journals, requisitions, purchase orders, procurement, and travel) - must be a subject matter expert in at least several of these functions
- Ability to build and utilize financial reports
- Advanced business analytics skills
- Ability to support the establishment and management of budgets of at between $10M and $50M
- Experience working with complex teams
- Strong communications and customer service skills
- Ability to engage regularly with internal and external stakeholders, including unit leads and administrators across the institution
- Ability to engage in an efficient and professional manner
- Strong organizational and time management skills, and proficiency with managing and prioritizing multiple tasks
- Ability to work with a variety of financial systems - preference for experience with Workday, Adaptive, and Cognos
- Ability to interpret the strategic goals and plan for assigned units
- Enrollment and financial planning experience
- Revenue and expenditure analysis experience
- Prior experience with complex financial and longitudinal planning and financial forecasting
