American Institute for Cancer Research is a multi-national charity, based in Arlington, VA with affiliates in the UK and Holland, who funds cutting-edge research in the fields of nutrition, physical activity and cancer prevention, treatment, and survival.
The Finance Department, with a staff of five is the hub in supporting all three groups from budgeting to preparation for the annual audit.
Position Summary:
The Finance Department provides all financial services for the American Institute for Cancer Research (AICR) and ensures the financial credibility and viability of the AICR and its’ affiliates through generally accepted policies and procedures and financial support for affiliates.
Nature of Work:
Financial:
- Ensure all financial functions, controls, and reporting are accurate, compliant, and supplies the information and analysis needed for governance and senior management to make timely and effective strategic, planning, and operational decisions
- Prepare timely and clean financial audits for AICR and network members
- Prepare and submit the annual information filings for AICR and network members
- Report regularly to the Board of Directors on the financial status of AICR and affiliates
- Evaluate and interpret financial statements
- Monitor expense and income levels compared to budgets
- Develop financial, accounting, and operating policies for AICR and network partners, including budget parameters
- Assist network members with their annual budgets
- Monitor inter-company relationships and transactions
Operations:
- Assist with corporate administration for the organization including human resources, building services, insurance, and regulatory issues.
Essential Skills and Knowledge:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting with minimum ten years of mid to senior-level financial, accounting and budgetary experience and five years of supervisory experience.
- Good presentation and writing skills
- Strong analytical skills
- Proficient in Excel, General Ledger and budgeting
Desirable Skills & Knowledge:
- CPA preferred
- Familiar with Abila or MIP Fund accounting software a plus
- Non-profit experience a plus
- International accounting experience
- Accounting experience with a Non-Profit
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
- Travel may be required.
