Department/Program Description: The Division of Literatures, Cultures, and Languages in the School of Humanities and Sciences at Stanford University houses the Departments of Comparative Literature, French and Italian, German Studies, Iberian and Latin American Cultures, and Slavic Languages and Literatures. Together, these departments and programs champion the idea that people think, live, and create in and from specific languages and cultures. The Division offers courses, degrees, and research programs that seek to think and explore the diversity, complexity, and richness of these national and transnational linguistic and cultural spheres. Our students and faculty master modern languages and use them to do research in culture, literature, history, political theory, and philosophy.
Position Summary: The Assistant Director of Finance & Operations will provide detailed, diversified administrative and managerial support of a confidential nature to Division senior management, as well as complex administrative and operational support with minimal supervision. The Assistant Director of Finance & Operations has responsibility of the events/facilities administrative staff and oversees the day-to-day building operations, including managing relationships with university service partners, custodial services, and other vendors. The ideal candidate will have experience supporting faculty administrators, and in-depth knowledge of academic program requirements. They should demonstrate an ability to perform duties with a high level of professionalism, flexibility, discretion, judgment, diplomacy, and tact. Anticipate and proactively solve problems and/or independently handle issues. Implement, interpret, and manage policies and procedures pertaining to operations, facilities management, and faculty affairs. As a collaborator with a variety of academic departments and business units, they will have a keen understanding of how the university functions and will be expected to develop and maintain knowledge of the Division's partnerships, priorities, and activities. May be responsible for overseeing other administrative staff or subordinates.

This is a busy position at times requiring a high level of professionalism, productivity, accuracy, organization, multi-tasking, independence, sound judgment, and decision-making. The position requires a motivated person with a positive attitude and a passion for customer service and supporting others to manage a wide variety of tasks in a fast-paced academic environment with frequently shifting priorities.
In this role, you will: - Independently implement, administer and evaluate day-to-day activities of the unit, function or program by identifying and executing tasks and objectives, making recommendations that impact policies and programs, and assigning resources to achieve the goals of the program.
- Collect and analyze data, create reports, review and explain trends; formulate and evaluate alternative solutions and/or recommendations to achieve the goals of the program or function.
- Analyze and interpret policies; develop, revise and implement procedures for program or function.
- Represent the program or function as the key contact and subject matter expert within the department, unit or school. Commit resources and provide information and/or training. May also represent the program or function to external/internal stakeholders and constituencies.
- Organize and/or participate in outreach activities that may include developing communications and training, planning/promoting events and/or conferences.
- May participate in development of budgets, monitor, and approve expenditures. May perform limited forecasting and provide recommendations that determine the budget.
- May direct staff to perform various tasks and assignments. May also supervise staff.
