The Center on Finance, Law & Policy (CFLP) at the University of Michigan is an interdisciplinary research center that draws together faculty, staff, and students from several U-M schools and colleges to work on a broad range of research projects focused on creating a financial system that is safer, fairer, and better harnessed to the real economy. The CFLP hosts large-scale conferences and guest speakers, facilitates interdisciplinary research, and coordinates a sizeable multi-school program known as the Detroit Neighborhood Entrepreneurs Project.
The CFLP is seeking an organized and proactive person to serve as our Administrative Assistant Senior. This person will provide administrative and programmatic support for DNEP and the Center’s research projects. You will report directly to the center’s assistant director. Flexible work options may be available after an introductory training period.
The Center on Finance, Law & Policy, and this position, are housed at the Ford School of Public Policy. Comprehensive administrative support, including scheduling, managing reimbursements for travel and purchase card reconciliations, and making travel arrangements for CFLP staff, speakers, faculty, or students.
In collaboration with faculty and staff from multiple U-M schools and external community partners, plan and manage events and meetings. This includes 1-2 conferences per year, our monthly Blue Bag lunch talk series, and occasional panel discussions or roundtables.
Provide hands-on event support and overall coordination of event logistics, including preparing invitations, tracking RSVPs and registrations, room reservations, travel and lodging arrangements, agendas, meeting materials and packets, promotional materials, meals and refreshments, audio/visual solution coordination, expense reimbursements, meeting minutes and documentation.
Contribute ideas to and support the CFLP’s evolving communication strategy, including updating the CFLP’s website, preparing monthly newsletters, maintaining the CFLP’s database, and posting to the CFLP’s social media accounts.
Provide support to research projects, including assisting with planning and implementation, participant engagement, data entry, mailing, and other related tasks.
Assist with writing and/or editing various research reports, grant proposals, or other communications.
Other duties as assigned.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Strong computing skills and ability to learn. Products include Microsoft Office and Google suite.
Ability to manage a large and diverse workload with attention to detail and the ability to meet deadlines in a timely manner.
An associate’s degree and two years of work experience with similar responsibilities, or a combination of education and experience that would make it possible to succeed in the position.
