The Director of Business and Finance oversees the business, accounting, and financial operations for Northwestern University in Qatar (NU-Q), including budgeting, planning, accounting, purchasing and payables, financial reporting and analysis, internal controls, student billing and payments, financial aid, Bookstore, and other administrative activities. The director reports to the Chief Operations Officer and works closely with directors of all departments and units across NU-Q as well as appropriated offices at Northwestern University and QF Finance.
The position plans and leads all aspects of NU-Q budget process, including collaborating with all internal and external stakeholders in the planning, preparing, and monitoring of the budgets. The director oversees the preparation of monthly and year-end financial reports and analysis and year-end financial statements as well as year-end audit. The position ensures proper internal controls and develops and enforces NU and NU-Q policies and procedures to safeguard NU-Q assets.
The position oversees the student financial services operations to provide accurate student-related financial accounting, including billing and collection of tuition and fees, accounts receivables, and financial aid program.

Provides oversight of the preparation of required and appropriate financial records and reports and year-end financial statements
Establishes and enforces policies, practices, controls, and guidelines for managing and safeguarding of the university’s assets
Manage the annual and 5-year budget process, including preparation of the budget, monitoring and reporting on actual results against budget and year-end projection
Manages the year-end financial statements audit and works closely with the external auditor as well as internal auditor as appropriate
Performs other duties as assigned.
Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, or business
At least ten years of progressive experience in finance, accounting, or business
At least five years of experience managing finance and/or accounting staff
Minimum Competencies: (Skills, knowledge, and abilities.)
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Effective interpersonal skills with the demonstrated ability to build consensus
Strong organizational skills with an emphasis on managing multiple tasks and people
Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint) and ability to quickly adapt to new financial systems and applications
An MBA and/or CPA strongly preferred

Experience in the higher education or non-profit organization
Experience in student financial services and operations
