Carnegie Mellon University's Finance Division provides financial management, enterprise planning and stewardship in support of education, research and strategic goals of the university. By providing data, insight, and analysis, we assist leadership and the university community in the financial decisions that fulfill its mission while maintaining a position of financial strength.
The Finance Division is currently searching for a Senior Accountant. Join our Financial Reporting team and you will contribute to the university's mission by providing critical support through analyzing complex accounting transactions in accordance with relevant accounting principles and standards to ensure that it complies with all relevant regulations, laws and reporting requirements.

Core responsibilities will include:
- Research complex technical accounting matters for a variety of recurring and non-standard transactions ( including endowment and gift accounting, debt offerings, and adoption of new Financial Accounting Standards Board ("FASB") pronouncements)
- Ensure that appropriate evidential support for complex transactions is maintained and documented to support all financial statement footnote disclosures and other reporting requirements
- Responding to requests from internal and external auditors
- Assistance in preparing year-end financial statements and related footnote disclosures
- Responsibility for subsidiary consolidation process
- Analyze and report on general ledger activity related to the university's endowment portfolio
- Record and report on transactions in the general ledger related to donated stock, charitable gift annuities and other investments.
You must demonstrate:
- Strong current knowledge of U.S. GAAP and SEC financial reporting issues
- Ability to work well with others and as part of a team.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and use discretion when working with confidential information.
- Ability to pay close attention to detail; keep and maintain accurate and detailed reports and records.
- Ability to meet deadlines, work under pressure and with frequent interruptions.

Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in related field.
- Experience in researching US GAAP standards and Financial Accounting Standards Board ("FASB") regulations utilizing online resources
- CPA license is required.
- 5+ years of experience recording general ledger activity in a non-profit or university environment, or comparable experience with a public accounting firm.
