Bard College is seeking a Staff/Finance Accountant to perform general accounting analyses and reconciliations. This is a full-time, exempt position in the Accounting Department, reporting to the Controller.
Responds to information requests related to fiscal administration.
Prepares reports and responses to external information and data compliance requirements.
Monitors and reconciles general ledger accounts and performs variance analyses on general ledger accounts.
Prepares, processes and records financial and budget journal entries.
Prepares financial and statutory reports.
Ensures that all banking transactions, including receipts, payments and inter-account fund transfers, are appropriately recorded in a timely manner
Participates in the monthly closing schedule, including account analyses, and balance sheet reconciliations.
Prepares Year-End schedules for the annual audits and assists with special projects.
Conducts periodic audits of petty cash boxes and proper reconciliation.
Performs other duties and departmental backup functions and assists with projects as assigned.
Basic knowledge of general accounting concepts and practices.
A minimum of three years of professional experience in an accounting related field. Experience in higher education or public accounting preferred.
BA/BS degree from an accredited college or university in accounting or finance.
Strong analytical, financial, and problem-solving skills with the ability to elicit, organize, and translate data.
Self-directed with an ability to multi-task, prioritize and meet deadlines under strict time constraints.
Possesses strong interpersonal skills as demonstrated by compassionate, courteous, cordial, cooperative, and professional interaction with co-workers, visitors, vendors, and students.
Exceptional ability to protect confidential and/or sensitive financial information and maintain integrity in record maintenance.
Strong attention to detail and accuracy of data; ability to process data, identify errors, compile reports, and reconcile accounts accurately.
Handle multiple tasks and competing priorities effectively and meet deadlines; well-organized and flexible; follows through on completion of assigned tasks.
Demonstrated proficiency in computer applications including word processing, spreadsheets, databases, accounting-related software, and Microsoft Office applications; previous experience with Ellucian Banner is preferred.
