Part of the department leadership, the Assistant Director works collectively and supportively with the Associate Directors and Executive Director to solution challenges for the entire Sponsored Projects Finance team.
Financial Management of a diverse portfolio of private and public grants and contracts, ensuring they are monitored in a fiscally responsible manner in compliance with all applicable rules and regulations established by the University and sponsoring agency
Provide training and guidance on portfolio management, focusing on compliance reporting, budget reconciliation, billing, net receivable reconciliation and collections, customer service and professional development
Specialized expertise allowing the troubleshooting of related agency issues and stays abreast of regulatory changes. Works to ensure that the organization is aware and adaptive to institutional and external policies and procedures
Project management of strategic projects, prepare and lead trainings which mitigate organizational risk. Specific project management includes focusing on the management and collection of accounts receivable for projects, including the resolution of overruns. Assists senior management in implementing processes, systems, and projects that advance the objectives of the organization and works towards the development and implementation of automated processes for post-award activities
Identify customer service improvements, by identifying needs of internal and external customers and providing them with the appropriate support regarding sponsored project financial administration and general ledger accounting
Other duties as assigned
Bachelor???s degree plus a minimum of six years??? related grant accounting and/or fund accounting experience required
Some managerial experience
Demonstrated knowledge of research administration / grants management and accounting business processes required
Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) required
Must be comfortable working with databases and computerized financial systems
Must be able to identify priorities within multiple assignments in a high-pressured, short-deadline environment, and be able to work with diplomacy and efficiency in such an environment
Must be able to demonstrate excellent organizational, analytical, critical thinking, interpersonal, written and oral communication skills
Must be able to work well with all levels of employees, demonstrate positive leadership qualities; be flexible in nature, have sound judgment with an open and collaborative style that encourages teamwork and cooperation beyond the immediate team to the broader organization
Must have a passion for excellent customer service and commitment to exceptional quality.
